i was told i need a 4:10 rear gear ratio but while i have been looking i have not found any information on a 4:10 for the 97 only 4:11 does anyone know if the 4:11 would work for it? or was i told wrong and the 4:11 is what i have anyway?

people call those diffs different things, some call them 4.10, some 4.11. they are the same diff and ratio, just rounding makes them called out differently by different people. you get that ratio by the number of teeth on the ring and on the pinion, so there is no difference between 4.10 and 4.11s if you are shopping around, hope that helps.

You have a 4.10 gear ratio (41 tooth ring gear/10 tooth pinion gear=4.10) not to be confused with a 4.11 (37 tooth ring gear/9 tooth pinion gear=4.11). The 3rd gen 4Runner never came with a 4.11 ratio. If you are in the market for a 4.10 non E-Locker I have one for you. It came out of my 1996 4Runner when I did my E-Locker swap.

If you're in there swapping out gears, I'd really think hard abut putting in a locker. It's the best upgrade I've made to my Taco.
