Edit: Ok, aparently the cop and the dispatcher did tell the driver to put the car in neutral but he said the car would flip. What a moron. Considering the car has a top speed of 106 mph and he only got up to 93, I don't believe the acc. was stuck. I say he was going for theatrics with making the cop slow him down. If he was worried about flipping he should have known that the spike strips up ahead might make for a rough ride. Let Yota execs interogate him. They'll beat it out of him.

I liked that this past week Toyota disproved the STAR WITNESS in the hearings at Congress...he was only able to overide the brakes with throttle after stripping wires and jumping them together to overide the syste....and these wires are not even next to eachother and would not rub eachother bare to cause this. it was a totally un realistic staging.
this past week Toyota hired some outside experts that proved the guys theory and demonstration was not applicable....and then showed how they could do the same exact thing with a Chrysler and GM vehicle...LOL
I do not believe someone could be accelerating like that without pedal being stuck in floor mat....and that all attempts to apply brakes, apply parking brake (mechanical), put the car into neutral or turn off the ignition were ignored by the runaway car.
It is to GMs advantage to make Toyota look bad and regain part of the profit margin...and the Govt is going to sit back and let it happen as they need their money back too.

I have thought to myself on numerous occasions... What happened to the use of neutral or simply turning the car off or like brock said, using the parking brake... I wouldve thought most normal human beings wouldve had that thought if their car was accelerating out of control...

Are you kidding you mean you think the government expects us to think, why they are here to protect us from the evil car companies that allow the cars to acclerate. How dumb do they think we are? Well in reality it is sad how dumb we have become the runaway on the interstate is just such and example turn the darn thing off or neutral; jess what morrons. I admit that it might catch someone off guard next to a wall and hit before you could turn it off but miles and miles at 90 miles an hour , holy crap batman how dumb can that guy be. i have one thing to say. I had no idea my car went that fast. Wooohooooo!!!!!!
I think the biggest story they have is the young family running off the cliff and dying, however that was a car mat issue. Plus the car mats weren't even Toyota mats, but the dealers sold them as an acc. and the CAR manufacture is now to blame.

Good friend of mine was killed in January in his Prius; ran through a red light and under a semi.
Sorry to hear for that loss but still think it is car mat issue....and still dont find it believable that someone could not use Neutral, Park, Reverse gear selection plus heavy foot braking along with parking brake and turn car OFF!!! to stop it.
