So Halloween is almost here, a new season of Walking Dead is running AND my 11 year old just left for a school dance dressed as a Zombie Prom Queen..Hows about a little fun - Lets say the zombies take over..what would be your plan?

Be as detailed as you like!

PERSONALLY - I say - wait it out for a couple of weeks at home..let nature take its course..then head for the Outer Banks (the huz can run the ferry out! OR if we can make it to the Keys...even better!) Clear the island of infestations and relax..Of course if they are 'world war z' zombies - this plan would suck.

Run the boat back for supplies every few months and BINGO! Island retreat!

I have a pancho villa style bandolier loaded with buckshot fit this occasion. Hang out at home for a while, if looks bad to worse me and family take over a grocery store. Would not go hungry at least! I always thought the coast would be safe due to you could fish for food. Take over a high rise condo for shelter.

Well the walking dead stole my idea of a fortified prison...... just about the best building to live in.
silent and melee weapons only unless needed.

Stockl up on a fleet...... for the first year or so gas powered vehicles would be fine but then all the fuel would start to go bad. After that old diesel mercedes, suburbans, dodges, Hummers, deuce and 1/2's..... that will run on just about anything and making bio diesel from crops isn't that hard if you have the room. Plus they are all dirt simple to work on with no electronics to go wrong and millions upon millions of them are in the US so parts would be fairly simple to find.

World War Z was a terrible book IMHO. Had a cool factor with the content but thought the author sucked.

An island would be okay but to me just too isolated and open.... what if a bunch of zombies washed up on the shore or supplies were needed..... going back to an uncertain mainland could be risky if you haven't established a base there.

I thought the premise was decent - some good ideas, but poor execution.

A few years ago I stood in a sea of nearly 900 thousand people - my huz looked at me and said "therell never be enough ammo for an apocalypse"

I think that Contagion was a much more scary and realistic possibility - we as a the human race are our own biggest threat..be it accidentally or incidentally - that being said -

Where the hell do I get a bandolieer? And WHY dont I already have one. Or two. Do they make em in kid sizes?! Hahaha

Plus if you go to the Florida keys or the banks you are putting yourself in danger from hurricanes with no national guard or coast guard to help you.

I would run straight to a walmart superstore and fortify it. Preferably one with a gas station. Those things have everything you would need to survive for years until the apocalypse cools down. Guns/ammo, food, golf equipment, etc. There is usually a large open space around it too so it's easy to defend and they are commonly located in rural areas or towns with lesser populations. There's normally a lot full of cars to choose from to modify into zombie proof recon vehicles and most likely a big rig or two. All the crap cars can be positioned as lines of defense throughout the open space. I would need some extra folks around to help defend it so I'll meet everyone at the store around the corner from Darin's house. It would be like an apocalypse castle

That's the best idea yet! You could use the roofs to grow gardens what with all the pots and soil in the garden section..there's always tons of pallets and crap to help fortify - and they have several little strong pallet jacks to help reposition vehicles- the riding ones are strong and quick as hell...I think the bigger issue would be fending off gangs and other survivors.
Does Walmart have steel storm doors that clamp down behind the front entrances and exits?

You'd be better off growing stuff in the garden center.... the roofs on those types of buildings can't take much weight.... can't remember the style but we covered it in depth in fire/construction training. Walmarts, home depots, targets, lowes are the buildings you don't want to be on the roof to fight a fire with .... then aren't built for much more than whats already up there.

A walmart is the first place i'd head to but wouldn't want to put too much work into having to fortify one..... Charity is right about other humans.... i'll stick to my prison but i'll come by and visit, Mike, if for some reason I need a plasma tv :D

I'm really not too worried about gangs. Call me an optimist but I think whoever is not a zombie would have a common cause going on. And not to many gangs in Raeford these days.

could I preorder a 3D TV from you then?? I'll trade you some shackles from the prison. ;)

Al, you can have as many TVs as you can haul. All I want is a blank white wall and a digital projector. And on a completely random note. I was wondering if zombie eyes can be blinded by laser pointers like ours can. I've never seen this in any zombie movies.

The huz is calling BS on WD...military using m16s @ 100 yards, no sights on a flat top AR..hmmm

Another viable option.... as long as there isn't a chance for Hurricanes passing over the top.
