Well guys, this is my temporary farewell. I have just finalized a deal on a 1987 BMW 635CSi european model, which has been my dream car since I was 10. I'm so stoked about it, working it, riding in it, using the built in fridge in the rear and of course driving it.

The reason why I am posting is because I wish to make a tribute to this amazing forum. You guys have proved to be an amazing help to me whenever I needed assistance, with the truck anyway. As most of you know, I got into an accident with it, and instead of fixing it, I'm jumping on this BMW. The LC will not stay in the garage however. I'm going to sell some parts for extra $$$, and then when I get alot of extra $$$, then I'm gonna make it an awesome offroader. Undoubtedly that will be in the future, but still, hope is not lost.

In short, this forum and more importantly the people on this forum. Thank you for everything.

I'll be seeing you....

Go with what feels right man. I think I posted to your topic before, I owned an
E34 (89 525 M20 motor) for five years. It was the best car I ever owned. I had the best memories in that car. It took me from Ky to CO,UT,FL,GA,TN,OH,ILL,TX,Arizona(cant remember abbreviation), Idaho, Arizona, Kansas, Missouri, Alabama, well you get the point. Extremely reliable, pretty easy to work on. I put about 80K on it, 105K when I bought it. Only real problem I had was a rocker arm broke off in the upper of the head, so I pulled the head, new cam, all new rockers, valve guide seals. I didnt need to do all of it but planned on keeping it forever. I bought parts from a place in CA that sold great quality parts for great prices.(when I remember the name I will PM you, so stay around). I always told people it was like owning an Escort price wise. Between this place and a BMW independent mechanic with a lot full of wrecked ones I NEVER paid much to repair anything. You have to find the 'getting' places for these types of cars. I believe that is an M30 motor, chain driven, (M20 was belt) very reliable and well designed, and torquey as fuc*. In a five series body they are fast.
Check for rust in the shock towers.

If any of the lights are out it can very well be the LKM (light control module) that is pricey. It's a relay that is as big as a VHS tape. It can be soldered yourself so Google if that is the case.

Make sure you know when the water pump was replaced. If you dont know, do it asap. It is killer in those motors when they fail and they will be one of the few things that can destroy the M30.

Is it a stick? How many miles?

Good luck with it man. And when I remember the parts place and the forums that were the most useful to me I will PM you. Take care of it and its' maintenance and it will quickly become your favorite car.

And how did I lose the bimmer????? Well when I was driving downtown a lady ran a red light at 40MPH and t-boned me in the fender and partial door. It pushed my car sideways 20 feet then up a curb to a sidewalk. I had just left a gas station and hadn't put my seat belt on yet, but I walked away with only a scratch and a concussion. Why did she run the light??? Because her husband had just gotten run over by a car and was in the trauma center ER and she was rushing to see him...

Wow. Bad situation man. Was anyone else in the car with you? Did you get straight into LC's? Why not another BMW? BTW, thanks for the advice.

In terms of forums, bimmerforums.com is pretty useless. It's a bunch of hot heads commenting about things such as "Wow, nice kill" and "I can't remember if the 3 series came with a four cylinder" or "They made an M1?!?" On the other hand, bigcoupe.com is VERY useful. Not that many people there, but they are very knowledgable. It is for 6ers only though which is why you have probably never heard of it before.

5 speed non-short tranny with 216,000 miles. I wouldn't have been sold on the car except for the fact that when I drove it, it seemed like it was new. The steering was tight, the shifter was tight, the engine was smooth and the brakes were phenominal. Amazing car, and let's just say that I am so excited about picking it up tomorrow that I won't be able to sleep.

Please PM me the info because I am having trouble finding places in this half of the country. Thanks alot man!

Good Ride

I recently sold my 84 533I E28. It was an amazingly great car. Just not utilitarian enough for my present endevors. The sharks are cool! Sold it and got the 60. Good trade for me.

E28.com will get you to a great crew that talks tech more then S@#!

Have fun.

Jim

But will they know anything about e24's? I know that the drivetrain is essentially swappable, but what about everything else?

Gotcha. I'm planning on doing something with it at a later date, so I definately will. Thanks.

Wish me luck. I'm picking up my e24 later today. AWESOME!!!

I recently sold my dream car 1988 E28 M5 - I held out looking for 5 years for the right car, when I found it I bought it, then I was afraid to ruin it.....also, I thought mercedes and porsche parts were expensive, you haven't seen anything until you own a M powered BMW!
