I just swapped out my radio and in the process decided to install a separate step down converter to power the radio and cigarette lighter. I took the two leads going to the cigarette lighter and ran them to the converter. I then ran power from the converter to both radio and cigarette lighter. I thought it went smooth as the radio worked perfectly but I was curious so I took a tester to the cigarette lighter and it is still has 24v. Can’t figure out where I went wrong as the radio would fry itself if got 24v. Any thoughts?
A second issue I ran into is that the previous owner I think ran their constant power from the lock actuator. I ran mine from the factory harness but left the old wiring in place however my lock actuators don’t work now. Thoughts?
On a side note I only decided to do a separate converter as I had read many times that the factory one was undersized, I installed a 20 amp one. I have to say the factory converter is huge. Easily 4 times the size of the one I installed. I’m now thinking it may have been unnecessary.
