Is this chainsaw sprocket OK still?

I'm gearing up for a bar/chain/sprocket? change (see other thread elsewhere).
Waddaya think of this one?
Doesn't look bad to me.
Do they have grooves already machined in when new to help with alignment or is this all wear?
My current chain is a 0.063" gauge. Would it matter if I changed the chain gauge and kept this sprocket on or not?

(PS: why are all the chainsaw thread in Home Improvement instead of in Tools?)

If the wear marks on drive sprocket is significantly more than .02 inch (.5 mm), you should replace the sprocket.

From page 12 of Stihl's "Sharp Advice For Chain Saw Owners" ppt document.

I bought a .325 rim sprocket kit for my ms250. Comes with clutch drum, washer, e-clip, and .325-7 replaceable sprocket. Stihl MSRP is $24.xx
Part # is 1123 007 1032

That sprocket is worn but is fine to run another chain or two.

great!

I'm still on my first one (after 20 years... :) ) so it's all good then.

I was told by a dealer that the new sprockets come machined with a groove matching the chain gauge. Sounded odd. Is that true?

thanks, interesting, but I don't think that's what the woman was referring to, because she knew I have a spur sprocket. Who knows, never mind that.

Tried to measure the wear but couldn't do that very well given the shape of the teeth. Not clear what the 1/2 mm is that the Stihl lit was referring to, but didn't look like the worn area was close to 1/2 mm deep if that's what was meant. So, no problem.

ditto on the sprocket looking good

as for different gauge chain, your fine. just don't go putting .050 chain in that .063 stihl bar...personally i think the 26rsc chain is much better than any equal oregon chain.
