After inquiring I got this response from the seller.

------------
Good day,
I know that you are interested in a car
located in the US,but I must first tell you that the
car is currently located in Italy.I had to list this vehicle in the
US,because
I want to sell it there, beeing an US model....Two months ago I had to move
to Italy with my job ,and I took the car with me.Here in Europe I had an
unpleasant surprise because the car is an US model, and It will never pass
the European emissions standards,so I will not be able to register it here. I have tried to sell it locally but it was not succesfully. That is why I am trying to sell the car in USA, there will be no further problems because
the car passes US emissions standards as long as it has been purchased in US
space. If you are interested in buying it,I will need your zip code so I can
estimate shipping and if you are a serious person I will let you know
further instructions to finalize the transaction succesfully.I am asking
also seriousity from your side because I have a lot of persons interested on
the car and I have to know each way to go.
Thank you for your time.
Karen.
Ps:The price and mileage are correct.

Yup - scam

Plus, there is no such thing as a US 80 2000 model.

She bad at speak ingish. Even if she was an ignorant American, the words are TOO wrong. This person is not an American.

Run, Forest.....

come on!
a simple search on "italy" would have revealed a number of these scams discussed...

POS Scammers

If you can turn that Son-of-a-Bitch in this is a definate scam. Unfortunately a friend of mine got caught up in one of those on Ebay, almost exactly the same but it was a crotch rocket in France and he unfortunately lost his money and to this day has not gotten it back, as said before Run Forrest Run!!!

You knoiw, you would think that if a person wanted to successfully scam someone they would at least DO THEIR FREAKING HOMEWORK and realize that 1997 was the last year for 80's in the US!

and you know why all these scammers are still around?

because the scams work with some greedy / stupid people...

(obviously Tony was smart enough to ask, so not him!)

True, but you'd think these online car businesses would step up their sh!t to better protect their industry from this type of stuff. They're reactive instead of proactive.

Land Bruiser,
Thank you for stating the obvious!

it's definitely a scam, or possibly a scamola. I almost got nailed on one of these with a motorcycle from greece. Found it on ebay, price was too good to be true. As soon as I emailed the guy, he took it off ebay (to avoid their buyer protection) and said he wouldn't accept paypal (to avoid their buyer protection).

Be wary of anything being sold from overseas.

You guys are all too skeptical. Sounds like a good deal to me. (joke)

I would tell them to ship it cod, subject to your inspection.

Personally, I would walk away from any deal where the seller questions the "seriousity" of the prospective buyer. The implication is that if you do not want to buy a car sight unseen at asking price, you are not sereious. Anyone who expects that is not serious.

I ran the vin on a 80 that was listed like that on e-bay....funny the seller e-mailed me it was in Italy and could be shipped back (same scam) , but the vin showed it had been inspected in IL 8 days prior. Hmmmm how long would it take to ship a LC from IL to Italy through customs and then why would you want to sell it where it was just "shipped" from.

I have run into several of these scams while trying to sell mountain bike parts on mtbr.com. They are everywhere. A lot of them are based out of Nigeria. It seems you have to be on the look out even when selling items as well as purchasing them. The hallmark is the horrible English grammar and spelling.

Mike
