I am getting ready to replace my pinion bearing and was wondering of the rear axle is full or semi-full floating. I guess that I could take it apart and look but I was wondering if there was any easy way to tell without puting the truck up in the air. I need to know so that I can order parts. I would also appreciate any input you guys have on this project.

Thank you in advance

If you are going to replace you pinion bearing you have to take your carrier off. mark both sides of the adjusting screws with a punch or flat head...unbolt both sides and pull the carrier. then pull the pinion and watch becasue there are shims, note where they are and how they go in. You are going to need to get the pinion bearing pressed off. to put the new one on throw it in the oven(the bearing) for 20 mins at 400 degrees and it will drop right onto the pinion put the shims back on and bolt it all back together....since you are not putting new gearing in it would be a hot idea to un-stake the pinion nut and and loosen it while the tires are still on the ground.....good luck brotha...its not all that hard.
