i saw this 1999 landcruiser for sale for 313k miles the owner had the truck since 2000. is it still worth it to buy and how much price range? "well maintained" according to the owner. i have an 80 series already but im thinking of getting this. i saw the car with dent at the tail gate and unknown leak under it. im sure it is from valve cover gasket the rest i dont know yet. cracked windshield and torn wear/tear steering wheel.what should i look for considering this mileage i know theyre overbuilt trucks but not much knowledge on 100s.

thank you very much in advance

Price would help. It would also help to know your intended budget, intentions/plans, your mechanical skills, etc.

Can you rebuild the engine yourself, and take care of all the other maintenance issues? $5000 is a decent price but not if you have to do $8000 worth of repairs right away if you have to take it to a garage.

I've always been of the mindset that high mileage is not bad, as long as they are your high miles. Inheriting someones high miles is always a gamble.

thanks! it seems the owner is willing to take 3,5. i totally agree with you its a gamble. because its either i buy it for 3,5-4 or just buy a decent 8-9k range whom i know lesser work and lesser mileage.

It's a big gample, but I understand your curiosity. You can buy something you think to be reliable in the $8k-$9k range and still get stuck with big repair bills. If you got lucky, you could buy this one, fix it up, and hopefully feel just as confident, if not better about it, than the "reliable" one you could've bought at $9k... for roughly the same money.

The question of your mechanical abilites is really what this will hinge on now. Even if you cant rebuild a motor, you should be prepared to cut costs by doing everything else that might pop-up by yourself. Factor into your answer how much collective knowledge your friends/helpers have as well... and think about beer costs. It starts to add up when your friends have to track down 300k mile gremlins with you.... you will also pay in guilt and future favors.
