I have a box of new replacement wheel cylinders for my 68 FJ40 that have been sitting on the shelf here since 2004. The outside rubber items look fine, but was wondering if I should replace those pieces(cups, etc) before I install the cylinders. Most of my trips in recent years have involved long distance road travel and it has been much more comfortable to travel in my Tacoma, so the cruiser has been in semi-retirement. After a day trip recently in the FJ40, I remembered how much fun it was to drive and so am currently motivated to spend some time and effort on it.

Thanks!

Agree. Drum brakes and wheel cyl's were used for many years because they were hard to hurt. Disc brake calipers fail quickly when leaks develop, but a drum brake can operate for many miles with a leak, as long as the fluid is replenished. A drum brake may not be as reliable, but the system can be held up better under adverse situations.
