Is a 4Runner for me?!

OK then...I see no point in looking for a 4 cyl with the above info, so I will keep my eyes open for a clean 6. I can understand why someone would prefer an auto, but I much prefer manual for a few reasons, so if there is no performance difference between an auto or manual, then 5speed it will be...that is if I can find one!

As for the locker, and if I understand it correctly, if I were to buy a really clean SR5 with a 3.4L and 5speed, I will find a locker assembly out of a limited edition, and install it into the SR5.

How do you guys like the towing performance? I have seen some with the 5000lb hitch assembly...do you guys like the way a 3rd gen will tow heavy loads...or do you feel that going to 5000lbs is really pushing it, and 4000lbs is more the range where the 4runner would be most comfortable?

5,000 is pushing it.... I'd not exceed 4,0000 with mine. The 3.4L has only around 190hp.

Agreed. The 4.0 V6 Tacomas are also rated at 5000 lbs, but that's even pushing "comfortable" travel, especially in the hilly country where I live. It is much happier in the 3500-4000 range. I never pulled anything big with my 3.4, but it's not as powerful as the 4.0 so I'd be conservative when pulling with it.
