It did not belong to me and got stolen from my garage. I have to buy another and don't know what they are worth. Chances are this one was several years old. It was in good to fair condition and I used it once. Of course the owner is saying it needs to be replaced with something nice since he's a frigging shyster and just wants a better wrench. I am not going to overpay or get this butthole anything better than he had. Chances are he was the one who stole the selected items from my garage..........what is the value on these? Anyone?

$100-200 in this area.

You didn't provide much info on the event, but if someone loaned a tool to me and it was lost/stolen/broken while in my posession, I would purchase an equal/better replacement no questions asked.

Tools are kinda a sacred deal.

X4. If you don't want to get into this situation, do not borrow tools. If you break it or lose it, replace it with equal or better value.

What happens when you find the tool after saying s*** like this about him?

He was kind enough or felt sympathetic towards your ass to borrow tools to you...

You clearly do not get or understand the value of that action.....

Step up and get something of equal or better quality and nothing less.

He's a dirtbag. This person is NOT my friend. I am going to get him an EQUAL tool, not a better one. Every single friend I have says that he probably stole the stuff from my garage. It's small price to pay to get this dude outta my life. I just want to know what I am going to spend, that's all. Sheesh.

Pretty easy to go on line and google IR 3/8" air ratchet....

If you know what exactly it was just search eBay for an idea on value. Might give the link to the lender to see if he'd accept it. But I agree with Poser that you owe him, regarless of his character, equal or better value. The point is to prove your character, not try to comment on his by how you go about replacing the tool. My $.02, often worth less, or, worthless?

I'm not even a big fan of lending my tools out to friends as I have been burned too many times. If the tool was in your posession I replace it and next time buy your own tools.

This is kinda a pet peeve of mine. I NEVER loan out anything that I'm not willing to just give away. Sometimes people think I'm an ass because of that, but I've been burned too many times. You have to understand where the other guy is coming from also. It shouldn't matter if he was a friend or a stranger or a total a******, he was nice enough to loan you a tool and you lost it. Doesn't even matter if he's a dirtbag and you suspect he's the one who stole it, unless you can prove that, it's a moot point.

I'd expect at the very least equal, but if it were me I'd probalby go out and just give him a new one, because that's the way I was raised. You always return things in better condition than you recieved it. In this case, even if you go out and get him the exact same tool, in the same condition, same age. etc, he's still being cheated. It's like losing a 10 year old car and going out and replacing it with another 10 year old car. It might techinically be in the same condition, but the problem is it was used by someone else, so you have no idea how well it was taken care of. It's different than something you've used yourself and know the history.

Just be a bigger man and buy him a new one. And don't borrow any more tools anymore. It might cost you a little more now, but that's a cheap price to pay to keep a good reputation. If I had a friend that did this to someone else, I'd blacklist them from ever borrowing anything of mine again.
