Help me undestand Inverters. I understand their purpose to power items such as lights and so on. Actually, the idea of The Christmas Parade got me thinking about this for my Pig. Do I just wire the inverter directly to the battery?

Or you can get the ones that just plugs into the cigarette lighter you should get enough juice for lights.

I needed laptop power once and couldn't get one of those to power it via cig lighter but lights should be fine.

The FJC has an outlet in the rear so it comes in handy for margaritas and Xmas lights. Jeremy's even used it to power his hair dryer while camping.

depending on what size inverter you get, the bigger ones -> 1000W and up can be wired directly to the battery (suggest you use a switch) and often come with alligator / jumper cable style clips also.

A 400W should give you 2 outlets, and can run thru your cigarette / 12V outlet. You might need to upsize the fuse - if you have it loaded.

Suggest that you add up how much stuff you want to run...and get an appropriate sized inverter. FWIW - WalMart has a liberal return policy, if you realize afterward that you bought the wrong thing - and need to upsize / downsize....

On the other hand, a Honda 1000 generator is pretty quiet, and will power 2 TVs, 2 stereo2, fan, disco lights... if you tailgate like that...

I had a 200 w inverter for the snowman, and it powered it fine as long as the rpm's were up off idle. that was ok (with the hand throtle)until the end of the parade when the brakes started to fade. It was plugged in to the lighter. I think I will look into another (400 w) this year and wire it to the batery.

the inverter i used blew its safety every time i honked the LOUD horns..... muhaha

I have one I can plug into cigarette lighter and use for charging phones, laptops or running XMas lights. You are welcome to borrow it Michael or use it as much as needed...
Are you not attending the Christmas parade?
