Hi, I have been ghosting around this site for a while. I have been laying low and putting off joining ONSC because I am about to deploy and will be gone for a while. The thing is, I got my LC out of the shop today and I am pumped up!
I bought my 1974 FJ40 from a guy just north of Atlanta. He was the second owner. The original owner put 140K on it and, according to the guy I bought it from, drowned it during a water crossing. The f engine broke and the original owner decided to sell. My guy bought it and a 2F out of an 80 FJ40 and never installed it. I bought it after it sat for 6 years under a lean-to on his garage. One heavy equipment trailer and a 12 hour round trip :steer: and I joined the club.
So, here I am...1974 FJ 40 with a 2F, 4 spd. 1F Aisin carb, points ignition, and a metal (timebomb) fan and about a month left to drive it.
cheers,
Patrick

Welcome, it's a great base to start with it sounds like. If you can make it you should try and join us this Sunday at Champps in Southpoint.

Welcome, Nice 40. Are you located in the Triad?

Welcome - looks to be in pretty nice shape for sitting under a lean-to for a few years...looks good.

Another 40 added to the bunch is a good thing...:D

And a big THANK YOU for your service...

Brad

Yes, you should make it to the meeting this Sunday! We won't take "No" for an answer, it's your penance for being a lurking in the closet 40 owner!

:flipoff2:

I am in Sanford. I am trying to get out of a thing with my other half for Sunday. I will let you know. What time is the meet?

troopy

If I bring my family, I will need to borrow a troopy. Still hoping to make it. I tinkered all day on her and there are parts everywhere...

thats a great looking 40 and cool story to go with it. Makes me hate missing some near buy experiences even more !! look foward to seeing you and the rig on the trail when you get back.

Sorry I didn't make the meet. POR15 and I had a run in...Trying to stop what little rust there is until I get a chance to work on her.

I guess this is my yearly update. Hopefully will be coming home on leave soon and am looking for a disc axle and suggestions on power steering conversions. Been looking at the IPOR bracket but have done no research yet. Any pointers?

I haven't seen the IPOR bracket so can't comment on it...but I just did the minitruck conversion on my 74. Found a steering box out of a junk yard, bought a reman saginaw pump and sourced the box and pump brackets from Orangefj45 on the vendor board (he is reproducing the Bill Dorry brackets).

So far I love it and the conversion was fairly straightforward. By far one of the best upgrades so far.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Where in Sanford are you? There is a few of us on Buffalo lake road.

SFROMAN and myself. There is also another guy rebuilding my old 40 and there is an imported diesel 40 that is back at the M&B auto shop that is suppossed to be joining our neighbor hood gang.

I live outside Sanford to the NW. I had it all worked out to do some major work, but needing a new heat pump for the upstairs of my house has put a kink in my plans...
