I’m excited to join the forum and connect with fellow Land Cruiser enthusiasts. I recently picked up a 1999 Land Cruiser 100 (1HD-FTE diesel engine). I’ve owned it for about a month—replaced a 2021 Volvo XC90 (to some dismay from my partner!)—and I’m loving every minute of ownership so far.
Right now, the truck is mostly stock, apart from the 20-inch wheels, which I’m considering swapping out for something more practical. I’m located in Oslo, Norway, and plan to use the LC primarily as a daily driver/people-carrier, and for ski trips, mountaineering, and light overlanding/camping.
I’ve already given the interior some attention by removing and cleaning all carpets, plus dealing with a bit of surface rust that I found under the rear carpet. Mechanically, I’d like to keep it mostly as is, but there are a few issues I’ll be sorting out soon:
Any advice on addressing these issues—especially the electrical ones—would be hugely appreciated. Looking forward to being part of the community and hearing your thoughts or experiences with similar fixes. Thanks for reading!

- Interior lights not working. The fuse is okay, but I still need to dig deeper.
- Instrument panel lights seem dim. May just be a rheostat adjustment or a bulb issue?
- AHC maintenance. It’s working, but I plan to replace the fluid and possibly the globes.
- Steering wheel refurb. The leather wrap is torn, so I’m looking into repair/replacement options.
