All,

In the last few days I've had an intermittent ABS/ Brake light with a beep go off in my 2006 gx470.

From reading I see it's possibly the bmc/abs going bad. I removed the plugs at the unit and cleaned them up to make sure. What else can I check on before ordering the $1300 unit? Again it happens for a minute or so at a time and then it goes away.

Thanks for any help!

its probably either the motor or the accumulator issue. you can actually buy the parts separately. i had to replace mine a few years ago. got the accumulator of fleabay from dubai, and the motor i got from Electric Motor 2003 - 2004 Toyota 4Runner Lexus GX470 ABS Pump and Master Cylinder Repair - Wholesale Parts Express - https://www.wholesalepartsexpress.com/product/new-4runner-gx470-abs-pump-master-cylinder-repair-electric-motor-with-gasket/

you can also get the accumulator from them too

Were you able to replace the accumulator without removing the entire assembly?

I would suggest getting a more advanced OBD2 code reader that can read the ABC/TRAC codes. These will help tell you what the actual problem is. Otherwise, you are guessing at replacing parts.

no, i had it removed. had to make a tool for it also. im sure you could remove it with it still installed. the electric motor absolutely not. the whole unit has to come out for that.

Absolutely, since the warning lights come off quickly it's hard to get it to the shop that has the scanner but that is the plan.

It should have a memory that stores the codes, even if the light is off. I bought a scanner for around $130 that reads them (from Harbor Freight).

Got it!
I'll stop by the shop to have them pull the codes and I do need to get a better scanner. Thanks!

Was able to get the codes
It is showing
C1223 - Malfunction in antilock Brake System Control system
C1241 - Low Battery Positive Voltage or Abnormally High Battery Positive Voltage
C1246 - Master Cylinder Pressure Sensor Malfunction

That second one has me wondering if your battery is on its way out and possibly the source of your troubles. Bad batteries can cause odd behaviors like what you're seeing.

You know I thought the same. I checked the battery and I am getting 13.2 volts when running . Is that ok?

That seems about right for warm idle. Cold idle would be higher. I'd go to the local auto parts and have them run a battery load test. It's free and won't hurt anything.
