Interest in Nissan Patrol TD42 engine

If there was a straightforward way to swap it infront of say a GM transmission (sm420/sm465/nv4500), I'd be interested. I have an FJ40 set up for a SBC and an sm420 that I want to eventually build for trail use. But as far as I can tell/find, that td42 only 'works' with nissan transmissions. Too bad. Judging by the ride I got in John's safari it would be a good swap.

I know Marks Adapters goes the other way. Not sure if they do the reverse.

Edit: If you liked the auto, next time I'll take you in the 5spd.

thanks for the tips guys

Why not run the patrol 5spd and transfer ? They are cheap and strong and dont drive to bad either with a few options available for transfer gears.

I have heard of this with Land Rovers (of course including using the Patrol axles). However, Jesse said he planned to only sell the engine and Martin already has a auto box and T-case.

Actually, I have a 4 speed standard GM box (an sm420/doubler/LC t.case). Factory compatible (nissan) transmissions for a td42 would not be my choice due to lack of availability here, and I already have a fair bit invested in the gearboxes mentioned.

Only way I could figure mating a GM trans to a td42 without custom parts would be maybe using td42 industrial bellhousing with front and rear halfs (assumes an SAE pattern) and flywheel/clutch from a forklift or UD truck. Then use a rear half that fits a common GM trans, like you'd find on an old cummins industrial motor.

Seems a lot of work in sourcing parts and possibly custom work. Otherwise I think it would be an interesting alternative to the usual engine conversion suspects for my setup.

Actually the 12V version of the Patrol automatic tranny is also in the Infinity QX35 and Nissan 300ZX. I hadn't thought about the UD Truck auto or 5 spd, but yes that could work. I am not sure how or if it would mate to the t-case. Here are a couple shops that are supposed to sell the right adapters to hitch a TD4.2 to Chevy trannies:

If I had the cash and it was a 12v I would jump on this. It would be a great engine in my 1977 Patrol Ute. However, I have a SD33T sitting here and plan to just drop that in the Ute.

If the engine sells, I'll sell the axles as well hub to hub (4-wheel disc). Rear end has the infamous Patrol LSD in it.

It doesn't take much to make a 24V TD4.2 into a 12V TD4.2.

x2 The engine is all mechanical :wrench: and the transmission 24v solenoid pack can be swapped out with a NA 12V one. Was just discussed over on patrol4x4.

$2,800 + shipping (shipping will be on standard pallet crate - estimated shipping across US is approx $400-600).

This is the engine with all accessories ~ turn-key.

I can do a video of it cold start, running at normal operating temp as well. No oil leaks. I'll do a compression test as well next week.

I did a 920 mile trip from Calgary, AB to Vancouver, BC over the mountain passes without a hiccup recently.

If I had the time to put into a project, I would not be selling it.

Lucky bugger. If I had the money, I would have bought it.

... I am starting to understand why for some, some or two old school Cruiser or Patrols is never enough. Now if I could just get my wife to come to that realization. :bang:
