A recent thread prompted me to inquire about the TrXus Mud Terrains. Forgive me if this topic has recently been discussed in this maner. I'm looking for personal experience with regard to the tire. I'm particuarly interested in the tires on-road performance. What I'm hoping to find is the tire with the maximum off-road performance while retaining the highest possible on-road maners. Thanks

I loved mine. Not bad noise for a MT. Performed very well for my needs which include DD, mud, sand and snow/ice. Hands down better then the BFG MTs I owned before. I would even pick them over the BFG ATs I have now.

I only wish they made them in a 37-38. I would have bought a set for my HJ.

Check into the Firestone Destination MT tire. Fantastic off-road and pretty dang nice on the pavement. It's roughly 8-9 ply too.

I have them on the 80 I own, and will be putting them on the 60 as well.

there noisier and need more air to deal with side wall "roll" but peform well. I never thought the ATs where that great on the wet/snow and the trxus are comparable if not better.

Interestingly, I have had all three tires on the same truck/rim combo. Like I said, trxus would be my choice of the three. It's just so much more agressive off road with nice on road manners. But if you are humming and hawing over the MTs vs the ATs, I wouldn't waste my time on the MTs. There just not aggresive enough. With everything i went through the ATs performed as well (and some times better, like wet grass) then the MTs.

I had the truXus and the ATs on a 2500 burb' and I'm split. The truXus were loud, and wandered more than the ATs, but at the same time compared to any other MTR they drove very well. I've got ATs on my FJ60 and my bro who has the burb' has ATs as well. If you get out on the trail more than once a month the TruXus are nice, I just don't have enough time, the ATs are fine for my needs but not nearly as sweet off road. I hope that helped... ask more specific questions if you'd like.

Another note, my FJ60 is not quiet by any stretch of the word, I'm not sure if the Truxus would be loud on it, the suburban is virtually silent at 70 with the ATs and they had a noticible hum with the truXus, but nothing turning the radio up 2 notches wouldn't fix :D

Good call on the Firestone Destination MT's, Doc. We have them on our plant trucks at work (F250 Super Duties) and they have performed very well. They are a little loud for some people's tastes, but not mine. They hold up to the weight of the heavy 4X4 Super Duties full of tools and diesel fuel, too. The only problem I can see with them is they don't make them big enough! :D

I debated about these for a LONG time before buying my AT's. Mostly for me it came down to not wanting too much street-compromise for the 10 or 12 times a year I actually wheel hard enought that the TrXus would be a genuine advantage.

Size was another factor, with my shackle lift, 33x12.5 was out of the question. I would have ahd to go to a 285/75-16 in teh TrXus plus get some rims as well which put me well over budget. The 33x10.5 AT's where a steal from BJ's.

I ran the AT's on my 85 4Runner and loved them in most every condition (obviously not mud). They are very quiet on road, wear like iron, are surprisingly capable in the dirt, and I was VERY please with them in the snow and ice.

I got a LOT of feedback on the YankeeToys.org email list on the TrXus and it was 99.9% positive. The only negatives I got were a few guys who really felt the braking was comromised enough as to be a factor. Since my wife (with son along) drives this truck occasssionally, I just couldn't risk any chance of that so I decided that my money would be best spent on a set of really good AT's first and foremost.

I'd still like to get a set of 33x10.5 Swampoers for serious trail use. :) :)

im still liking mine, had them on for about a year now on the 80.
noisier than bfg at- but no comparison in mud or snow, the truxxus beats the bfg at's hands down. they feel a little unsteady on ice if your going over 40. shouldnt really be going that fast on ice anyways.

they seem to be wearing pretty decently also.

See, mine aren't loud- ! They hum slightly on freeway at speed, but it's not noticeable with the windows up and the radio on at normal volumes.

Yes, they need to make more sizes available. Right now the tallest you can get is a 33", which just won't be big enough when I lift the 80.

I'll bring this one back from the dead... anyone? compare the Truxus to the Goodyear MTRs? Espically interested in mileage, I've searched here and pirate and there wasn't much about road miles.

JMHO. We have BFG A/Ts with less than 10K on the cruiser and they are the worst tires I have ever run. Our driveway is basically a well worn rut filled logging road and it continues to an actual narrow logging road out back. It gets all conditions from dry and rocky to moderate wet rock to large lake-like puddles to mud wet grass to packed snow, powder, to total ice, steep incline up and down with sharp curves. Very fun and effective tire trials every time we come and go. If it is wet or snowy or icy, basically if it is not a beautiful summer day, the cruiser feels like it is going to spin out of control into the culverts or off the side of the driveway down into he trees. 4WD is a must to get up the drive, sometimes even on a nice day. i drive less than 5 mph, more like crawling at 2mph and i still slide and fishtail, even in 4Hi. When I brake I continue to slide 5-8 feet, even at that ridiculously slow speed.

I would have thought it was just a tough driveway with all the inclines curves and terrain but we have Geolandar A/Ts on our Taco and that truck is solid as a rock even going 10-12 MPH in the same conditions. When we leave together, it takes me more than twice as long to get the bottom of the drive in 4HI as it takes the Taco in 2WD and I nealry die along the way. WHoever is in the Taco cringes as they watch Bertha in the Rearview.

Sorry for the rant, but I just needed to add my experiences with the BFGs. I will never buy BFG again as long as I live. If you have good experiences with them then that's great. I just know that they are not for me. I would go with the Truxus or Yokohamas a/t or m/t.
