Hey ya'll, I'm currently installing a Mozart CarPlay interface into my 2016. This lets me keep the factory setup (head unit / display / controls) & just interface CarPlay + get a clean output signal for aftermarket equipment!

The problem we're running into is the output from the interface doesn't come with a volume control. The reason for this is the CarPlay kit is designed to route the signal through the factory AUX input (which is where volume control is). Unfortunately, catching the signal after the AUX input isn't ideal because the factory signal is bandwidth limited (filters, etc). Therefore, we are sending the output directly to a DSP & therefore looking to get volume control from somewhere else in the factory setup.

Has anyone tried something like this & if so does anyone know if the audio volume control located on the factory CANBUS?

Thank you in advance!

Here's a quick pic of the CarPlay interface working through the OEM screen. Fun fact did you know JBL actually sources the head unit from Pioneer?!

Update: learned there's no such control for volume on CAN bus.

To bring back volume control we ended up adding a Mosconi RC-Mini for volume, an Alpine IR remote, and a PAC audio interface (no longer produced as of 2010) to wire up the steering wheel.

The factory volume knob technically isn't going to work because it requires re-wiring things / soldering & it's not worth it when the Mosconi controls are inches away.
