Had my 3FE rebuilt and finally installed today. When I started it up it is popping under the valve cover and running really rough. Won't idle and will run around 2K rpm. A neighbor mechanic used some starting fluid around the intake and the rpm's came up.

My question is any suggestions before I tear the intake back off and replace new gaskets?

I have re-torqued the manifolds, adjusted the valves again and set the timing three times.

Get an OEM manual and rebuild the intake. mine had leaks too when i replaced my head gasket. i cant remember why it leaked. it will take a couple hours to do.

check to see if either the plenum or intake ends are flat with a straight edge.

good luck.

Get a lenght of heater hose and stick one end deep into your ear then run the hose around the intake and eventually you should hear a hiss helping you locate the leak.

We apply all those gaskets with a light coat of the red OEM sealant and it really seems to help.

Remove the hose from your ear when done

Do you use the red OEM sealant on the mainfold to the head and the manifold to the plenium?
