I pay about $20 a month. Basic coverage. 25 married includes home owner discount and multiple car discount. (Allstate)

I have a '90 in excellent shape (documented upgrades), insured for stated value of $10K (will have to revise this after the overhaul). I pay $360 every six months to AllState.
Clean record, one accident (not at fault, was rear-ended at a stop light), no tickets. I'm 35 and married, live in Round Rock (suburb of Austin), TX.

I think it has a lot to do with where you live, how clean your driving record is, age and marrital status (believe it or not). I pay $1,100 a year (liability only) and for NYC it is a good deal. I'm 33 married and have a clean record. With the same criteria in PA I would be paying half of that.

so it seems like most of you guys go with liability only.. what do you guys plan to do if the unthinkable happens and you crash your rig?

Is it worth it for me to go with comprehensive?

I'm only 23 so every penny counts still.

I pay about $70/month for liability on 4 cars. Not sure what the FJ62 would be by itself. I buy the minimum amount of insurance required by the state. Insurance is betting against yourself. The insurance companies are making money, therefore you are paying more than you are getting back.

Only insure what you absolutely can't afford to lose. My house fits that description, my FJ62 doesn't.

even if you don't appraise every time you drop cash on your rig, you can still get money back. keep your receipts, and in the event you do get wrecked, call an attorney, there are lots of them in LA (including my wife, but she don't chase ambulances) who will work on contingency and get your money back from your insurance carrier (that is why you pay them!)

I respect your decision. I hope you know what you are doing, but it so sounds like you don't.

I'll refrain from telling you something it sounds like you don't want to know.

I really mean this, good luck to you.

i'm paying $460 every six for the 60 and the 40. liability only. if i crash it, i will drive the other one and buy the hulk back to use parts on something else.

150 american pesos for 02 jetta (full) and cruiser (liability). my driving record not the best.

Please educate me. I'm an open-minded guy, don't mind admitting when I'm wrong.

The basis for my decision. Feel free to shoot some holes in it.
The average for comprehensive from this thread is about $860/year, $650 more than what I pay for liability. Per this thread, blue book on a cruiser is probably around $3K. If I total my cruiser, insurance will give me $3000 after I pay a $500 deductible, net $2500. I need to total the cruiser every four years to break even here. I like those odds.

I failed to make myself clear. I was not questioning your decision not to carry full coverage. I don't either.

I was questioning the part about carrying the state minimum liability. Maybe I should clarify that varies from state to state, but here in SC that number is 15/10/15...

If your state minimum numbers are higher, I will stand corrected.

So ins lesson of the day, not directed at you, as you may well be fine, but I've seen so many seem to not understand how that works.....

If you carry $25K individual liability, are found at fault in a wreck, same person incurrs $100K in damages (easy to do, 1 of my clients had someone pull out in front of her, broke both ankles, required surgery. She is also going through about 3 months of rehab. To date her bills, not including missed wages, is $175K, and there is no end in sight)

So you cause 100K in damages, the ins co writes a check for the amount you purchased, $25K. The injured party looks to you for the remainder. You shrug your shoulders, they hire an attorney, and one month later your wages have been garnished and you have a lien against your house.

Point is, most of the state minimums are a joke. When is the last time a state or federal government ever got anything right?

You need to carry enough liability to protect your assets. Both current and future if possible.

And again, you cannot rely on your safe driving patterns to predict the future. One of my clients swerved to miss a driver that ran a stop sign. Had 4 witnesses. LEO said it was his fault he hit the car next to him since there was no contact with the stop sign offender.

Point is, CSI is not investgating the accidents, folks. Nothing against traffic cops, but we are all one check mark in a box away from having to prove our cases in a questionable accident, and track down the witnessess.

Put a cctv camera and dvr in vehicle.

I know all you may think thats just to wierd but you never know it may be used to prove your incents or your guilt. Many times I am almost the victom of a accident so may be worth it. I agree on liability, what do most of you ask for against your cruisers? We have 1 million and 2 million liability here in BC. I have 200k which is very low and mabey need to jack it up.

Allstate has a collector policy with unrestricted mileage in CO. Don't know what it takes to qualify, though.

insurance companies (i.e. Geico, Progressive, allstate). Another issue that has come up with insurance is that they will price you a quote and everything will go thru at a great rate. THEN they will ask for proof of prior insurance and look up your record etc, then 2 months later your rates will go up. see all different quotes check www.insurance-quote-free.com ,choose whats right for you.
