Insurance Appraisal?

I was talking with State farm to get my FJ40 insured. They said I could get full coverage for $100 per year based on a antique/show vehicle. They said i would need an appraisal so they could determine vaule. I checked a couple of on line services that are charging for the appointment and travel time. Best i could find is $305.

Does any on have any thoughts or expreinces with this. I only drive my crusier about 2000 miles per year.

I just did this. Call your agent back and tell him you want Hagerty - Collector Car and Boat Insurance . They specialize in antique vehicles. I told my agent what I wanted to insure it for. He took some pics. Turns out he did not need to even send them to Hagerty.

So no appraisal was needed. If you insure for IIRC for 20k or more, then an appraisal would be needed. My cost is $220 for the year. I am allowed to drive 5k miles per year.

I dont think State Farm agents sell Hagerty insurance..
 
I had a local auction service write me up an appraisal. It was a friend, so it was no cost. I pay 138/year through State Farm for Antique Insurance, not sure if it's underwritten by Hagerty.
 
I called a local hot rod shop who would have done an appraisal for $50.
So that $300 number seems very much inflated. In any event maybe go to hagerty website and do it yourself.

Comes with towing, yada, yada. Great deal for the money.
 
they dont do agreed value. call hagerty they do i had my fj40 insured for 35000 dollars for a mere 400 a year no mile limits. if they say antique that does not mean they will pay that but mine is in writing also if you tell them you go 4 wheelin good luck. also np appraisal they just looked at the pictures

I just got mine appraised a couple of weeks ago before I hauled my 40 to ariz. for some wheelin. First guy wanted something like $350.00. Then found a guy for $125.00. I was nervous someone would total my 40 and I wouldn't have a leg to stand on. I have Hagerty and I think its about $300.00.
 
if you are with hagerty and you go wheelin they wont pay unless you did not get it insured as a collector car and get an agreed value policy
 
There's a network of vehicle appraisers out there that charges $100-$150 at the most. I'm too lazy to Google it for you though. Your quote is wayyyyyy too high
 
Make sure you get uninsured driver coverage.... :mad:

This is how hagerty works. If I total my truck, they write me a check for the agreed price. Simple as that , no questions asked.
 
i would check on that i have them also and they say if i go wheeling they will not cover it. also you said appraisal needed for over 20k i did not need one and mine is 35000. i supposed you agent told you that not hagerty right

I can only assume you have not had much experience dealing with insurance claims....

I don't wheel mine. But I am sure if you have hagerty you are right.
I could be wrong on the "agreed" price thingy.
