I just bought some HIDs (5000k) that were pretty much plug and play. I paid $170 I think for em.

The only permanent modification I had to make was a big hole in the plastic covers behind the lights.

Tools required; just a dremel or a hacksaw. Since I want to make a few permanent modifications as possible, I just ended up dremeling the leads that came with the XD kit so that they would fit into the factory crimps exposed inside the stock covers.

These things were just a little too big. Sanded them down a bit and they fit just fine! After removing them from the plastic plug housing of course.

I just drilled straight into the back of the covers and sanded the rest out. In retrospect I made the hole a little too big. Start small I guess! I'll have to use some sealant on the loose fit.

Put the grommet here and taped over the leads.

There was barely any room for the bulb in front of the grommet. The wire was pulled as short as possible..

I fit the ballasts in the turn signal space as suggested by somebody else here.

They were pretty useful 2 nights ago up in the mountain when I was driving back at night.

They are super bright and almost blinding when directly looking at them. Our projectors have 2 little "sign illuminators" above the cutoff that are probably stupidly bright to look into. I've been very conscious of the line and it's not in anybody's face. Unfortunately the mod to remove them requires baking... The pattern is alright; I saw a true retrofit post here recently that had an amazing pattern. it's a bit spotty, but no doubt bright and clear.

I would probably go for the 4300k next time. The 5000k is "pure white" I had read, but it's feels kinda blue.

As far as lighting is concerned, I now want some overhead lights that aim up and to the sides a bit. The high beams barely did anything at this point : )

What all did you get with the XenonDepot kit? Anything special in addition to the bulbs and ballasts? I only ask because I've been running DDM kits for going on 3 years without an issue, and they cost me less than $70 shipped with a harness...sounds like alot of money for a simple PnP kit if that's all it was.

Nice writeup though. End result looks good - and I agree, 4300k-4500k is the way to go.

It came with the bulbs, ballasts, and some relays.

I considered the Volt kit for $120, but adding relays would have put the two super close. In the end, I figured I might as well go for it!

$70 sounds great!

PS: crazy, I have a thread by you in another tab (tires)

you can just unbolt it and move it slightly out of the way, no need to fully remove the battery.

do you have a link for the DDM setup?

Job well done.

Anyone ever consider retrofitting the fogs with HID?

I prefer to use fog lights for their intended use - fog and other inclement weather. The beam is supposed to stay focused downward to illuminate the roadway and minimize reflection off of the rain/snow/fog/etc so you can actually see. Adding HID to them kinda defeats the purpose, since the reflectors scatter the the light everywhere. It might be better with the projector style fogs in the LX470, but the standard fogs on an LC are messy with HID...even moreso than the headlights.

I'm actually thinking of pulling my HID kit out of my low beams and switching to HIR bulbs, and putting the HID kit in the lights mounted to my bumper. The amount of scatter I get with my low beams is starting to become annoying.
