I have the Pioneer NAVSYS 910 which pairs an AVIC-80 navigation system and a AVH-P6500DVD a 6.5 inch screen that works allows touch screen capability for the navigation system and plays DVDs. I think those are the models. It's about a year...year and a half old now I think... I linked it with the Panasonic overhead dvd player so that I can view the same thing if I want or have the car's stereo play the audio from the overhead unit.

too much when I bought it. They have one out now called the AVIC-N1. It's a single din unit and is pretty much a all in one, thus the name. It's not as convenient to use as you have to put in the nav dvd to use the nav system, but it's also a lot cheaper at around 1300 or 1400 off ebay. The overhead unit is about 600 bucks. If you're gonna replace the stereo though, make sure you find the lexus connector because the toyota one doesn't fit it.

hey snook thanks for the link and wantacruiser what unit do you have in your dash???

There's an installation shroud designed to fit between the ceiling liner and the dvd unit. It's probably an accessory that can be bought from the manufacturer and is typically used where the monitor is installed on a vehicle that has a sunroof. With the sunroof, there's not enough room between the headliner and the sunroof channel to make the DVD monitor flush. As such, you use a shroud between the headliner and the DVD monitor so it's nice and clean. The shroud is usually about $20-$30 and is designed specifically for installations where there's not enough room for a flush install (i.e. sunroof applications).

NOTICE THERE'S NO GAP BETWEEN THE LINER AND THE UNIT

hey mobi arc, can you take a picture of it from the back side of the unit? I'd like to see where it's mounted in regards to the old dome light. Thanks. The shroud that came with my unit is simply too big. I really don't want to use it. It will lower the unit by around 3 inches and the base of the shroud will widen the unit by another inch or two. So I'm trying to figure out how I can make a custom shroud so that it will have a cleaner look.

hey wantacruiser are you happy with the nav unit you have my friend has been pushing me to get the kenwood system but i still want to stay with the laptop idea but my stereo in the lx is on the way out so why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone i guess

Personally, I think the nav system is pretty much crap. I don't know how well other nav systems work, but I think this one leaves a lot to be desired. When I input an address, and there are multiple streets, it gives me a choice of cities. Then if I select a city, for which that numerical address does not exist, it tells me so and I have to start all over. Why would it list it in the first place if it doesn't exist? I'd like a system where, the more information you put in as far as address is concerned, the list of possible addresses becomes smaller. that way if you don't know the complete address, you can sort of use a combination of the address input and a listing. There are other things too...But I figure as the boxes become more sophisticated, the nav systems will work better. There is a newer model. You might want to check into that. Maybe things have improved. But as far as telling me where I am, and that sort of thing, it's fine. I also wish the POI search was better. Like if you are looking for things within a certain distance from you. Not the entire Area of search. Or if you want to give it parameters to search for in terms of place or city or county. You simply should be able to do those kinds of things. And the sound of the power isn't enough. Needs more juice. So if you get it, plan on getting an amp cuz you'll need it. Hope that helps...
