Hi,
I am in Tanzania (East Africa) and new to this forum. I would like to swap a 1HZ engine with a 1HD-T engine in my 70 series. I just like the roar of the 1HD-T and its quieter drive. My questions are?
1. Is it possible?
2. Do I need to change the gear box?

Thanks guys

It should be very straightforward. The engines share the same block family and pretty much everything should bolt up just fine.

The 1HDT does use and move more fuel, and in the HDJ80/81s the fuel lines from the tank through to the engine are quite a bit larger than what the 1HZ uses - which doesn't make much sense because the 1HZ uses more fuel than the 1HDT.

The 1HDT is not a quieter engine than the 1HZ.

The 1HDT does have a fair bit more power and also lower fuel consumption than the 1HZ.

The 1HZ with a turbo will perform similarly to a 1HDT, but will use a lot more fuel than the 1HDT due to the indirect injection design of the 1HZ (about 20% more fuel).

You will want to run a larger exhaust with the 1HDT.

The angle of the turbo outlet on the 1HDT may need to be adjusted to clear the frame on a 70 series.

Which gear box do you have? You haven't provided any details at all as to Chassis number of exact model of 70 series... I don't see a need to change it, but it's all in the details.
