I was kinda wondering about the whole seatbelt issue... so i guess this question is mainly for the members from Texas.... besides having the normal stuff working..ie lights, horn, windshield wipers.... are we required in Texas to have full shoulder seatbelts? The reason i asked... this past weekend i met a guy from Dallas who had this super nice restored early 70's bronco and i noticed he didnt have an inspection sticker on his windshield. When i asked him about it, he said that "Antique" vehicles, like his, are not required to be inspected. Nor did he have shoulder belt... just a lap belt.

Any idea's what the Texas rules are?

As long as the vehile is equiped with the OEM type seat belts lights, etc. it should pass inspection. They do not retro-act or mandate anything more than what the vehicle came from the factory with. Being the vehicle was built before '82, you will not have to do the emissions testing. So as long as the vehicle is mainly equiped as it was from the factory and all is in good working order and repair, you shouldn't have any problems passing inspection...my '78 40 didn't, neither did my '68 40 until I garaged it..for now. The antique plates are great...but you can only drive it so many miles in a year.....

LAKERAT is correct,,, seatbelts are required if the vehicle came from the factory with them. On a side note, some parks and trails require seat/lap belts and roll cages.

From what i remember, the antique plates are on vehicles your are only going to drive on weekends and holidays.

windshield wipers are tricky,,, they can easily fail your vehicle for the condition of the wiper blade. If you remove the whole wiper assembly, they cannot pass or fail your inspection because of the windshield wiper.

Note you could still PASS inspection, without the windshield...as long as you have the wipers. GO FIGURE THAT ONE OUT....:meh:
