hi all, i don't know how many of you follow the 80 series tech page but i wan't to post my story here and get some advice.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/fj80-sandwich-new-bumpers.847454/#post-9662995

so i'm going to meet the adjuster tomorrow at the Allstate office on green springs. i'm worried they are going to try and total the car. do you guys have any local advice about this? if they do total the car, should i try and buy it back. i've never dealt with a salvage title but it looks pretty complicated from what i've seen so far. ideally, they'll give me enough money to put on decent aftermarket bumpers and fix the body work under the grill and if i'm really lucky and do the bumper installations my self, maybe leave enough left for some OME springs.

any advice is appreciated.

Very sorry to hear that, I would guess they are going to total it. For the rear crossmember to be bent that badly it must have been a pretty hard hit. For the heavy towing you do I would think a 100 would be a much better fit anyway.

I would have a nice list of high dollar recent sales to back up your side ready to go. Yours should be worth much, much more than KBB value. 80s seem to be selling high right now.

on another note - blue collectors edition with salvage title with front and rear damage but intact body panels...paging @Land Speeder

Hey man, I was recently t-boned by a camry. Took the truck to get it estimated by her insurance, Geico, and they had the 93 at $3500. The damage was $3600. The manager knew I wanted to keep it, so he had the adjuster write it up for $100 less than total, then gave me $150 for rental re-imbursement. I went in being buddy-buddy with them and up front let them know I'm keeping the truck. They were fine with it.

The kicker, they will only give you up to value. So don't try for any more. Or they will total it.

DO YOU WANT TO KEEP IT? If so, keep it.

If you want to ditch it. Get as much cash from the insurance by telling them you have a shop in mind out of town that you want to do "Land Cruiser" fixin to it. ACC in other words... and then turn around and sell it to me AS-IS. I'll buy that beast as it sits!

Call me either way, we can discuss your wreck, my wreck and my advice to you at your estimate. 205-447-3038

I looked at the pics again. I'm not sure I've ever seen a rear crossmember THAT bent before. That was a friggin lick you took! How you doing?

it was a pretty good hit. i'm fine. a little sore. funny thing, in the split second after i realized i was in a car crash, my first though was not about my safety, but that the car was hurt. i guess it shows how i feel about my 80. i'll let you know what they say tomorrow. i'm meeting with the adjuster in the am.

Explain to them how extremely rare your vehicle is... I'm not entirely sure how many Blue and locked 80-series there were... but I'm betting there were about a dozen. And then on top of that, it's a CE.... I mean DAMN, that's about as rare as catching unicorns procreating.

I'm with Eric on this one.

hi guys. got an update. went to the allstate adjuster yesterday and they came up with $3700 for repairs. seemed lower than every one estimated so i went to the body shop at tom williams and had one of the guys look at the quote and they felt without having the bumpers off and having it on the rack it was pretty accurate. he seemed fine with me taking off the bumpers and letting him fix everything but the bumpers and i'll put on some aftermarket bumpers. fwiw, they only valued the car at $8200. i told them that seemed low but since the $3700 wasn't close to the 75% to total threshold i didn't really argue. i'm pretty set on a 4x4 labs rear bumper but i'm still torn between the tried and true ARB front vs. the American Overland Expedition. thanks again all. brian.

Love the 4x4 Labs rear on my LX. I have an ARB and for me it seems a bit heavy. I am not a big fan of it but that's how I bought it and I know it will take a beating. If I could find someone local with a Slee Short Bus bumper who wanted to trade I would in a heartbeat. The AOE bumper looks nice too.

hey all, just added some more pics to the thread liked in the original post. i took off the front bumper and the rear end caps and mud flaps. i couldn't find a quick way to cut out the cross member so i figure i'll leave it for the pros. i was contacted by a mud member who was nice enough to offer me his slot in a 4x4labs group buy since he didn't think he could follow through with the purchase. so, hopefully, i can get the new rear bumper sooner and cheaper than expected. the more i look at the short bus from slee, the more i like it. i just wish the front hoops came up a little higher to give more radiator protection. thanks again all. brian.

hey I commented in that thread... hit me up. We can do that work you speak of... no shop rates needed. Spend that on cool stuff!

thanks for the offer, i figure I've got to take the LC in anyway to get them to put it on the frame rack to make sure i'm square. my thoughts are that the original estimate was a bit low, so we'll see if they find any more damage with the bumpers off to bump up the estimate. eric, thanks again for all your help. brian.
