See my thread "rough idle, no power, knocking".

I read some injector cleaning/calibrating info and it seems Man-a-fre has a $180service to redo your injectors. Someone else said to bring it to a local injector place. Do you know of a local injector place?

It's getting cold quickly and she's really running bad :crybaby:. Them new tires aint gonna do me any good with it sitting in the street.

Maybe I should give up and bring it in somewhere. Anyone know of a good FJ80, 3FE engine mechanic? Has anyone brought one into Jamco in the city?

Thanks,

Joe

JAMCO is picky. They may not touch an older cruiser like yours. They told me they wouldn't touch an FJ60 cause they don't have time to deal with the parts needed, and the relative lack of experience dealing with them. They also told me they won't do a clutch in a 4wd Rav4, since it's such an involved and labor intensive process.

I guess if you got enough business, you can afford to be picky?

So, I'd call them before showing up with an FJ80.

Another option is to get a manufacturer's part number off the injectors. Injectors tend to be somewhat standard -- pretty much all the manufacturers select their injectors from the same parts catalog from Denso, Bosch, etc. On a Toyota, it's likely a Denso part. Find out what the Denso part is, and you can probably buy new ones off the shelf somewhere.

According to the chart here, the 3FE uses the Nippondenso "Sky Blue" colored injectors, 213cc/m, 13.8 ohms, 20.9 lbs/hr at 290 KPa. You could maybe get new ones from a place like NAPA, and they may not cost much more than having the existing ones serviced.

The local toyota mechanic I know ships his injectors off to get cleaned and calibrated.

You know anyone who rebuilds 3FE's? Did a compression check and it's bad.

I'm in decision mode right now. Options as follows:
1. Do it myself: Wait until spring, take out motor & bring it in the garage to rebuild myself. I've never rebuilt a motor before, but that's the fun of having the old toyota, right? Can't do it over winter because need garage space for Bathroom renovation.
2. Bring it into Shreve Engine Rebuild and let them do it. This would be quickest but more expensive. Goes against the "toy" part of "toyota".
3. Hog Wild! Look at a V8 swap.
