My next project is to replace the window runs and driver's side window actuator on my 1989 BJ-74. This is the first topic I have searched for and haven't found multiple threads that cover it.
If anyone has suggestions on installing the runs that are inside the door frame that the window slides up and down in or replacing the actuator that lifts the window, please post up.
I am hoping the new runs will allow the windows to go up and down easier. I am hoping the new actuator will raise the window all the way up.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
Peter

Hi Peter
A couple of suggestions which should make the installation and use of new window easier.

1. Your window regulator will have an adjustment bar which is held in place by 2 10mm bolts. Mark the current position of these bolts so when you have the new window in place you can use the position as a reference point.
2. Follow the same procedure with the bolts holding the runners in place.
3. If you are using the original window rubber, wash it out with warm soapy water as the grit and dirt that collects is sometimes this is the reason for regulator failure.
4. If you can, roll the window fully down until the 2 bolts that hold the window to the regulator are visible.
5. Remove the bolts holding window in place.
6. Remove the bolts on both runners and you should be able to tilt the window forward and slide the window up through the window opening.
7. Reverse this process to replace runners and window.
8. With the new window and runners in place and the adjustment bolts on both loose raise the window into the close position.
9. Tighten the bolts on the adjustment bar for the window and nip up the bolts on the runners without fully tightening them so you can now roll the window down and adjust if necessary. This might take a few attempts and some silicone spray in the runner so the glass glides up and down easily.

Hope this helps

Senior - Thanks for all the help! This will make things easier. Are the runs glued in or are they friction fit?
Onur - My driver's side actuator is stripped at the top. It gets about 1/2" from the top, keeps running but doesn't close.
Appreciate the help!!!

Ah I see..... Then I guess you might need an actuator.
