Hello North Sound Cruisers! Unfortunately I do not live in the PNW (I’m a 60, 80, and 100 Series Land Cruiser owner living in Oklahoma), but my brother-in-law lives in the Seattle area and his 2014 Tundra with 232k miles (5.7L shared with the 200 Series) was just diagnosed with coolant leaking into a cylinder by Michael’s Toyota of Bellevue. They quoted $16k to replace the engine with a used unit with 80k miles.
He did take it to another shop (G&M Auto Repair in Bellevue) and they scoped the cylinders and found coolant in cylinder 6, saying either a crack in the block or head gasket. They also recommended an engine replacement.
All that being said, is there a solid independent Toyota mechanic that you guys would recommend? He misses the knowledgeable and trustworthy indy he previously used in Tulsa, and I would love to help him find something similar in the Seattle area. Any help is appreciated, and thank you for any advice and input!
