Have any of you been there? Sunset magazine says it's only accessible to lifted vehicles. I like those places; keeps the riff-raff out.
How much clearance do I need? Winch needed, or is the magazine exaggerating a bit?
Any info helps.
Thanks

It is north from Truckee on the 89. Not far. By Sierraville. I looked at some threads and it appears it has been bought by a conservation group and is only open to day use for the time being. It was apparently getting used hard and they felt best to restrict use. There is very unformal campgrounds that are no longer open. Found interesting footnote on one thread...
The poster noted that the road to it provided alot of access to ohv trails in the area. The lake is big and it would be worth an exploration run.
Gatton, dust off ole blue......
It is within Tahoe Nat. Forest so guns are o.k. however the Lake itself looks to be private property and the site the owners have says day use & no hunting.

Ol Red has been there as it turns out. 'Bout 10 years ago we spent the night at a friends cabin that sits on a little lake just a few hundred yards north of the big lake. Pretty country, but high country. They go in by snomobile this time of year. Lots of logging roads all over. The big lake was all private, different owners, pretty much pay to play.
