Any feed back on how the inclinometer/compass/thermometer work?

Anybody maxed out the inclinometer yet?

was playing in the sand and running up hills this weekend, and my son saw it get over 30 degrees but after that we dont know because we were busy concentrating on getting up the hill.

I had an Inclinometer in my FJ -40 when I rolled, but didn't think to check it as I was tipping over! hahaha

Every time I make a trip to P&P I look for a 4WD tercel with an inclinometer. I'd like to have one in my 40. Just for fun.

I had a 4Runner with those and it was the best gadget!!!

Does anyone know if the factory inclinometer/compass, etc.
gauge set can be retrofitted to an FJ that didn't come with one?
I would like to have it but am not up for paying the $$$ for the
package it comes in.

Thanks,
John

I have not done it, but have been given a definitive "yes" by parts and tech. It's a plug-in.

I was told by my dealer that it is NOT available without getting the package it comes in. I haggled with him for an hour over it, and no dice!

I got the extra package in the end, and my instruments.

I bet you could order one from Cruiserdan.

It is available as a replacment part. I guess it just depends on how much you want to spend

Here are the part#s

Meter 83290-35080
Bracket 83297-35050
Cover 83179-35020
Clips 90467-07138-B2 x2
Nuts 90080-17191 x2

toyotaisme, did you have to drill holes in the dash? it looks like you might have to.

does any one have any more info?? id love to do this, i looked up all the parts but i didnt see any wire harness, is it all pre wired? how dificult of an install is it?

thanks

I'm not a fan at all of that goofy high-profit margin dash display. The thermometer works fine but the compass never keeps working more than a couple of days and the inclinometer is too tiny and bouncy.

I prefer my Lev-O-Gage. The ball doesn't bounce around and it's easy to see. I may rig up a second one for for/aft purposes.

I think its cool. I haven't had any problems with the compass either. I have only had to reset it one time when I disconnected the battery to do some welding for the Body Mount Chop. It has always been spot on with my GPS compass. Thermometer is fine, its a thermometer and seems to work as well as any other. The inclinometer needs to go past 30 though, at least on the fore-aft axis. Last trip to Moab we pegged way past 30 degrees many times.

Personally, I think mine is just taking up real estate that could be used for radios and stuff. I've had it off-scale, but believe me when it is, it's the LAST thing you're looking at. My passenger took this photo for me:

I had a similar set-up in my Dodge Raider (Mitsubishi Montero) and hated how it took up space and view through the front windshield. When I bought mine, I made sure it didn't have it. My wife would get fixated on the inclinometer (she called it the "eyeball") and watching it roll around would cause her more stress than anything else.

But, to each their own, never missed it in mine...
