Ive been having all kinds of problems with getting my brakes bled and after running a ton of fluid through the lines ive realized my air bubbles are probably chilling in my master cylinder. Anyone have any suggestions for how to bleed it, ideally in the truck? My best idea is to go find some 10mm brass plugs and screw em in and then pump away. I suppose i could just use my fingers but ive had brake fluid shot in my face before and id rather not relive that, plus i dont have anyone to help me right now. Any tips would be great.

Well, all i could find today as far as brass plugs go is 3/16. I found some metric 10 mm bolts but they were all either stainless or course thread (i found something i thought was right, but it was stainless and i didnt want to gamble with the threads on the MC). When i measured my brake lines for brake fittings they were 3/16 on the button, so i figured that it would be close enough. I figure all i need is a couple threads to hold for me to bleed the crap out of it. Anybody think that will bugger up the threads in the MC? Oh, and what exact size ie pitch, thread per inch, is the stock 10 mm fitting?

Chris, i tried to lure a buddy of mine into helping me today, but even after i offered beers he still bitched out. Guess working in the rain only sounds like a good idea to me  .

Go to the wrecking yard and cut off a couple of the hardlines about 10" long or so, screw those into the MC and bend the brake lines so that the go into the reservoir, pump away.

EDIT: Get the harlines off a Toyota.

PAFJ, thanks for that thread, i dont know why i hadnt found it yet. I think im gonna try the wrap the fitting with a rag and have someone hold pressure on the pedal while you crack it idea. Today i took both brake lines off, and replaced them with solid brass plugs, and then pumped the pedal like 30 times as hard as i could. I figured this was a pretty good one man approximation of the finger method, but even after i get good clear fluid all around its still helllllla soft. I can push it most of the way to the floor with the engine off. I guess ill go try that and see if it works. Thanks for the help guys.

Well, i tried just cracking the fitting with a rag under it, and i had my helper tell me when the pedal was just about to bottom out for me to tighten the fitting. Did that and twice around bleeding the system, and although it could be a bit firmer the pedal is a TON better. I figure ive only bled it once since i cracked the system open so i can expect to see some improvement when i rebleed later this week. Thanks for the help guys.
