Hi
I have a 3.0L Hilux diesel that i have just spent $5200 on a rebuild of the engine and now at the first service my mechanic tells me the rear main seal has a bad leak.
QUESTION: Should that have been replaced during the rebuild and if they did could it have leaked after only 1200km? Im no expert on engines so im not sure. The rebuild was done by an engine company but engine was removed by my mechanic and delivered to the rebuilder then reinstalled by my mechanic as the rebuilder dont remove engines
What do you think?
Cheers

Main seal

Yes the rear main should have been replaced no it should not be leaking that quick. I would talk to the rebuilder to see what was replaced and the mechanic sounds like a warranty job to me.
