had a wacky thought
I have a battery charger / engine starter. Industrial size (like a large flight carry on bag). Says 200 A on it (although the ammeter only goes to 40).
Would it be possible to use this for stick welding in an emergency without burning it up? 200A is a lot.
It's probably 20y old or so. Century. Took it apart once and there was very little in there except for an enormous very heavy transformer of some sort and I imagine some big rectifiers (don't recall). I don't recall seeing any ICs.
What do you think? I imagine even if it doesn't burn instantly, the duty cycle would have to be kept very low if it's designed just to start an engine. No fan that I recall.
