I know there's the 15 years old law when it comes to importing a car or a truck in Canada. BUT! I've seen so many 80 series cruiser around, less than 15 years old and some chevy truck too not 15 years or older, so my question is : Could I drive down to a Toyota Dealer in the let's say new york states and buy a brand new toyota tacoma single cab 4x4 and bring it back home?
Just thought I'd ask since I think they look great and are not available in Canada.
Thank you
Matt

yes.

if its listed in compliance list.

All vehicles intended for the NA market can go freely between our countries.

SO you can buy a new cruiser and bring it up.

Call Revenue and Customs, ask for sure. Any boarder post should get you a live person to talk to. The numbers are litsted on the internet. As well call a smaller one. As the big ones might be too busy to chat.

i have heard similar from Fords bought in Canada under a fleet plan, head to the USA and wham no warrantee.

But on used models that are out of warrantee no problem.

Kind of strange that the warrenty would be void if it changes country...
I heard the same thing for tv's and stuff like that.
The reason I'm looking at a U.S tacoma is for their single cab, 2.7l 4 cyl, 4x4 tacoma, wich is not available (Wonder why) in Canada.
How does the taxe would work? Do I have to pay the states tax or since I'm from Canada I'm tax free and then get hit in the face with a bill at the border?
I should give these guy a call.
Thanks
Matt

iuf you wanted a southwestern one that was closer to rust free I would be happy to drive it to New York State for you at some point... I am from there originally but live here now. But will be in Montreal... ...tomorrow!

Before attempting to bring any US vehicle into Canada, confirm its admissibility with the Registrar of Imported Vehicles.

hahaha cedarbarn I'm going to get one like yours, but maybe black, and then we go wheel together lol!

dieselcruiserhead : I want an '06, will most likely buy brand new thanx anyway.

According to the RIV link eleblanc posted above, a suspension lift kit would not be allowed.
In my completely unofficial and untested opinion, an OME kit is not really a suspension lift kit and really just replacement springs of a slightly different dimension than stock - at least, that's how I would argue it...
