This light is constantly on. Driving, sitting, key on engine off, doesnt matter. Always on. I've read a few threads where the light is always blinking, but haven't seen any where it's always on. Those lead to a fuse box replacement or some type of jumper to bypass. I have yet to see a no start condition out of three trips.

Recently replaced battery?
Tried disconnecting battery for short period and reconnecting to see if light stays on?

I do remember seeing something about this yesterday when going through various threads about transponder programming, but I read through so many trying to get my spare programmed that I don't remember where I saw it or what I saw.

Recently as in a few months ago. No issues up to yesterday.

Will disconnect the positive on battery to see what happens.

Huh. I know that happens when the ecu is left in registration mode and all 3 keys have not been added, but don't know why it would just happen.

The floorboard is soaking wet after some rain. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Immobilizer ecu location in one of the foot wells perhaps.

Also, just tried to start the vehicle with a key with no transponder. Vehicle just cranks. Starts and runs when I add the transponder to the key.

Thought I had read that the immobilizer ECU is behind the glove compartment near where the cabin filters are. Could be wrong though, and yes, if you have wet floorboards then I would come to the conclusion quickly that something is wet and shorting.

The ecu is behind the glove box. Pretty sure there is also a fuse box behind the kick panel. I would almost put money on something being wet causing your problem.

There is a small fuse box on the drivers side kick panel. Found out the hard way when I realized my side view mirrors weren't working and when I asked the PO he shrugged and said "Don't know, never had to adjust them" (though he was a good 3"+ shorter than me.

It might change through the years but just played with different years 98 and 99 to see what should have to be changed over to get it to start and key less entry to work with out reprogram.

The column has a transponder module that goes to the RF coil around key ignition, And the main engine computer behind the glove box, Both have to be changed to start the truck. Also tumblers then glove box, front doors, and hatch for a complete conversion. In theory. You could remove the coil around the key and put it under the dash with the correct key wrap d together, then use what ever key hardware you have. Use it for remote start without extra pieces and then only need metal keys.

Just to come full circle on this... the light is now acting as it normally does. Dried the truck out and will investigate source of water.

Is there a sunroof maintenance thread around here?

Yes, there are a few threads about that here. Also windshield leaks. Pretty common.
