This idea has been cooking in my head for 2 or 3 years and tomorrow I'm going to get it welded up. A while back I bought a piece of 3/8" thick, 5" wide x 40 or so inch long piece of steel. At the time I was thinking I could drill holes 3 feet apart to match the holes for the recovery points. I didn't realize there was a cross member down there.
So there's a welder guy at work that's using my generator and such so he owes me some welding.
I am going to get some 3/8" thick angle iron 8" long 3-1/8" on one side and maybe 2" on the other. The 3-1/8 is just long enough to drop the iron slab down even with the front bumper. The 5" just fits between the front bumper and the cross piece. Also the hf 500lb hitch reciever base is also 5" wide. I am getting the angle iron 8" long so that I can catch both bolt holes in the recovery point but shift the iron slab forward to fit between the cross member and the bumper.
Now initially I am going to draw the hitch receivers bolt pattern on the slab drill the holes , and then get welder boy to weld the bolts to the slab. Then I can bolt the reciever to the slab when I don't care about angle of attack. When I want a front winch I can get another slab of Iron with holes to match the hitch reciever base but long enough and big enough to accommodate the base of the winch . I could also rig up a snow blade for it too .
Finally since the slab is 40 or so inches wide, I can fashion some j brackets that rise up in front of the bumper and mount a light bar
I know must people want their reciever hidden in the bumper, but I want mine seen. I drive in DC traffic. I really want some kind of almost full width front bumper step....and paint jagged teeth on it...for people that stop short in front me or cut me off changing lanes.
If I get drilled and welded I might post a pic. I have to find the bolts long enough to put it all back together
