I'm a total newbie re Camping Trailers.
Never owned one but wanted to own one for years.
Might just pull the trigger now that I am retired.
Gotta learn about all the nuances about trailers.
Whats your opinion and suggestions regarding using my 2002 LX470 to pull
an unloaded 3,000 lb 17 foot trailer?

I assume I will need to outfit my LX with:
1- 2" hitch with 7 pin electrical
2- trailer brake gizmo
3- Equalizer hitch
4- Stabilizer hitch

Any comments or suggestions?

I'm seriously looking at a 17 foot trailer.
Want to make sure my LX is capable.

Carl

That trailer is certainly below the towing capacity of your LX. I believe that the LC/LX has around 5500 lb towing capacity. You should have a plug under your steering column for the brake controller, search MUD for how to access that. The prodigy P3 seems to be a pretty popular brake controller here and in general. I'm not sure what to say about the hitch and wiring, my '07 came with that stuff.

I have a 2005 lx470. It came with the 7pin plug already but no hitch. I purchased a hidden hitch from Amazon, already had a p3 electronic brake controller and just purchased a wire harness.
All easy to install yourself if you want, I did. As mentioned, the plugin for the brake controller is next to the steering column and is pretty hidden.

I pull an adventure trailer so I'm unfamiliar with standard ball hitch trailers and equalizer/stabilizer.

Be sure and baseline your AHC. Depending on how you're currently outfitted with bumpers, sliders, etc, another 300-400 lbs of tongue weight may need to be managed. Engine is pretty good for that weight, but still 45 going up somewhat steep hills.

Might sort out your wiring/brake controller needs then borrow someone's 3500lb trailer and see what you think.

2 questions - I'm also a newbie with the LX, owned it for just over a month:
1- Is there documentation on how to base line the AHC?
2- Anyone have a photo of the brake controller connector next to the Steering column?

What have you done to your 100 Series this week?

I post a pic of the Hayes adapter I used. You have to get an adapter for 2003 and up Sequoia, 4runner or tundra you wont find LC listed

You have to take apart the lower dash as the connector is taped to the cables going to the ignition. 15 min job

'Baseline your AHC' was meant to mean be sure your system is performing as expected. If it feels good, you're probably good, but nothing like going from a DD to a fully loaded 1100 lbs or so to make it work. Tongue weight will take 300+ of that, add 1-4 people and see what's left for gear, etc.

Search on AHC, Member Name PADDO, and the FAQ. To be honest, the easiest thing is to do a dry run with someone else trailer, if you are just considering purchasing.

Not meant to scare you off, just been there... ;-)
