IH8MUD iPhone app 1 month review.

I've been using the app for about a month now and wanted to share some thoughts (I'm posting from my phone as we speak). Overall I'm very happy with it. I love that I can access everything and the interface is wonderful. I went back into forum runner just to see how it compared and I can say I'll never go back.

I have run into several issues and wondered if others could comment.

1. Experienced an issue where the app opened to a black screen. No way to get around it. I had to delete and reinstall which fixed the problem.

2. I have no idea how the number of notifications correlates with anything. New threads? New posts to subscribed threads. It's not new PMs which I wish it was. I would like to be able to only get a notification for a new PM. I get email alerts for new threads I'm subscribed to.

3. My most recent development. When I go to my participated threads tab I get a notice saying something like "Sorry, no matches. Please try some different terms." I'll try deleting and reinstalling again. This is my most used mud function.

4. Search function does not work. So if you ask if I searched I'll say yes.

5. Cant subscribe to a thread I'm starting from the first post. This isn't a bi deal cause I can go back into the thread no problem and subscribe.


Other than that the app is awesome. I've been recommending to everyone and I'll be showing it off at tonight's club meeting.
Any input is appreciated.

Ah yes just tries search in several forums with good success!!! Still no luck with #3.

Search is working on the iPhone 3GS as well.

OK, so with iPhone can I search by forum? i.e. 100 series cruisers. I just did a search and it looks at all of Mud which turns out to not be very useful. Search gives me options for Keyword, User Name, Date, Order but not an option to refine what thread to search in. Am I missing something?

Access the forum first, then press <Menu> <Search> - just used it in the 100-series corner, worked as it should (Droid)

Nope. Went into the 100 series forum. Clicked "more" clicked "search" got results from every forum.

Can any other iPhone users verify this?

I am not seeing a button labeled "Menu" on my iPhone.

I do have the "More" button though, and when using that button, I get results from all forums as well.

Can I ask here?...
My iPhone app shows "2" unread somethings.... But there are none.... I've uninstalled and readded the app.... It can go higher... Like say 7 but never lower. What gives? What am I doing wrong?

not sure...will point the developer to this thread and see if they are aware of any bugs...'guessing' the iPhone did an update and the software hasn't caught up yet....

try this:

Likely they have subscribed threads that have new posts and they don't realize
that it is causing their count to go up because they don't have the
"Subscribed" tab on the main tab bar.

Have them hit "More" then "Edit" then drag "Subscribed" down to the main tab
bar. They'll probably see the notifications they are referring to.

OK, two months in and everything is seeming to be working great. I still don't like the notification bubbles, but understand they relate to my subscribed threads. The only reason I get on the computer anymore is to post photos (I prefer the directly imbed to get rid of the "Attached" boxes. Great App!
