Hi All,

I recently bought a used LC UZ 100Series. I have been reading a lot on the IFS and Front Live Axles issues and am concerned.

My query is on how to identify whether I have IFS or Front Live Axle. My car details are below.

Model:Land Cruiser
Make (Manufacturer):Toyota
Model year:1999
Manufactured in:Japan (Asia)
Body style:
SPORT UTILITY 4-DR
Brake - front:Disc
Brake - rear:Disc
Driveline:4WD
Engine capacity:V8, 4.7 L, DOHC
Engine series:V-8 4.7L
Fuel tank:25.40 gallon / 96.1 liter
Fuel type:Gasoline
Tires:275/70R16
Trim level:4WD
Turning Diameter:39.70 in / 100.8 cm
Vehicle type:Multipurpose Vehicle

I am based in United Arab Emirates and I love my Land Cruiser already (not as much as my FJ tough ;))

Yours would be IFS mate. ;) In comparison, a live axle model has a differential in the front that looks similar to the one in the rear.

Issues? Everything has issues. There an issue with towing in that my Land Cruiser can't tow 18000 pounds like my 3/4 ton Suburban. There's an issue with my Land Cruiser not fitting in my parking garage at work, or getting the mileage of a Prius.

Drive it and enjoy it! I got 331k miles out of mine before I sold it. Drove it all over north and Central America. On road, off road, hauling loads of firewood, kids, etc. front diff never broke.
