Anyone have experience with the about '96-04, Taco, Tundra and 4Runner diffs? I have heard they are the same, are they direct swappable?

Kevin, I do not know the answer to your question or what you are needing, however I have a 96 4Runner complete IFS from my donor vehicle that I pulled the 3.4 V-6 from.

We met in the grocery store lot in Moab in April. My son with with me in a red 80 with a white top. Terry

If it's correct, are looking to sell? Not sure of the ratio, etc, yet, but the victim in need is a '01 Tundra.

Yep, you guys have some nice rigs!

I would be willing to sell, however I am in Colorado now and won't be back until sometime this fall.

May plan is to part out the 96 when I get back to Tucson. Terry

98.5 to 04 are interchangeable, the newer ones have add (automatic differential disconnect). If you need some taco parts let me know.

Ive got an 03 tacoma front diff in the garage if this works let me know.

The one we are looking for is a '02 Tundra, from what I hear Taco & Runner will swap? The tag says A03A, so 4.10 ratio? If you have it, how much?

BO3A on the tag. looks like 4.10s

'95-03 Tacoma, '00-04 Tundra, ?? Sequoia's, and 96-02 4Runners have a high-pinion 7.5" IFS front diff offset to the drivers side. The high-pinion design is used so that the rack and pinion steering and anti-sway bar on these vehicles can run under the front driveshaft. The housing is a unique bolt-together design. The carrier inside is exactly the same as the '86-95 IFS diffs, so LSD's and lockers for it are also the same. However, since this is a high-pinion diff, the gears for it are different (reverse-cut) than the earlier diff. There is an ADD and non-ADD version of this diff as well.
These diffs use different gear sets than the earlier IFS diff because of the high-pinion design.
- Driver's side
- High pinion
- 27 spline axles
- Bolt-together "clamshell" housing design.
