Hi,

I am wondering how many people are having problems with the Toyota OEM trailer hitch fitting their FJ Cruiser. I have had two Toyota hitches, and neither of them would fit. On the first one, the #1 bolt (left rear lower) would not line up to the threaded hole in the frame. On the second hitch, none of the rear bolt holes lined up. In addition, the top flange was not square.

Let me know if you have had problems getting it to fit.

I had zero problems with mine. Did you follow the order of what bolt to put in when? It will suck the hitch in the wrong direction if you put them in the wrong order.;)

Absolutely! First bolt would never go in. I also noticed the first bolt hole is smaller than the rest. At the suggestion of someone, I installed the lower bolts first to draw the hitch up. On one hitch that enabled me to get three out of four rear facing bolts in (all but #1). On the second hitch, I couldn't get any rear facing bolts in.

That's very odd. All my bolts were the same size.

The bolts are all the same. Go get a "tap", bring one of the bolts w/ you and get the proper metric Tap, probably an M12 or so. "Chase" all holes. Make sure all bolts are good, try them ALL in one hole perhaps. If it is just a minor mis-alignment why not just die grind a tiny bit on the hitch itself? "I" completly reworked my hitch, there is a write up about it in, I believe, the DIY section of www.fjcruiser.cc

Good Luck!

You reworked your entire hitch???!!!

Maybe I better get my old one back from the dealer, since it "only" had one hole I couldn't get the bolt started.

Method to the madness? I boxed that rear section into a
BEAST. Go see the pics on my forum...

OK, silly question here... Are you sure you have an FJ hitch and not a 4runner hitch?

Cheers,

Michael
