Well I finally got to use all my parts from C-Dan this weekend. Changed the oil with filter, changed the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, and PCV with grommet (yes I had to go fishing for old grommet out of the head). Cleaned out the air filter it was still fine. I put it all back together and now my idle is a little high. I know the whole bit about EFI fuse and unhooking the battery it has to relearn the EFI stuff...BUT...I have pulled the fuse/battery before and it gave me an inconsistant idle until the system relearned everything.

Now I have at start up, idles @ 1500 RPM warm, cold, hot, doesn't matter...shift into gear and pegs right @ 1000 RPM, again warm, cold, hot, no difference.

I have triple checked, and everything I unhooked I rehooked up. Should I just give it a couple days?

Since the tune up I have had approximately 20-30 starts...still idles @ 1500 in P or N, and 1000 in R or D.

Before my working, I was getting fast start up idle, then it would peg out at 650 RPM...

Any and all help is much appreciated!

***EDIT*** I inspected the TB it was not bad at all...compared to the pictures I have seen on here...and b/c of that I didn't remove it at all.

Did you bump the throttle cables?
WIth the motor running, move the throttle and see if you can get the idle down.

Well I did remove the throttle cable...and have noticed since that my acc. pedal seems smoother...hmmm I will check and make sure it is moving free and not caught on anything.

Thanks

Don't make me come down there!

Do a search on my name, and you'll see my TB experiences (with Jimi H.) Friday night.

Pull the body off it's a 1.5 hour deal in the dark and give it a good clean. I DO NOT believe that you can give this a good clean with out removing it, the only persons tha believe this are the ones that have never took it off. There's just too many tubes, air jackets, springs, and etc.... I cleaned mine until the drill inspector approved and I would blindly spray more carb cleaner and find even more sources that I didn't visually notice before, this really sould be some sort of dunk and vat event.

One thing that I did find on mine was that it now idles high after about 2 hours of constant driving, but that's because my throttle peddles sticks a little. Just propt your foot under the gas peddle and pull up. I don't know if that's your problem, but it's a free check and a easy lube fix or PITA cable replacement.

If you come to the roots end then PM me and I'll drive down this weekend (my real intent is to see Robert E. Howards house), but I'd be more than happy to help.

You were the "one" I was comparing my TB too. Mine looks like yours does when you were finished...yours looks very nice though, and I'm not bragging...haha

But I played with it yesterday and figured it out. The adjustment nuts on the T cable and the CC cable were all loose. So tighted them with the idle where I wanted it and BINGO!

BUT NOW....not to hijack my own thread, I have eliminated my very high start up idle....Hmmmm.....I still let it warm up for a minute before putting it in gear but upon start up it only hits 1200 RPM before coming down from there. Prior to the service it was like almost 2000 RPM.

My only other thought was it may have been my new Eclipse head unit and Memphis PR speaks all around that I had installed yesterday. It sounds SOOO much better!

Not complaining at all.

Lurker- thanks for the offer but I will be at PK lake all weekend...ahhhh...have fun in Cross Plains! CONAN!!!

You don't adjust the cables for idle speed.

If you go and jack around with the cables then a guess you could induce some dirt around the springs and stops. On top of this to inspect the cables with the TB on you would have to loosen the cables to remove them?

Maybe this is what he ment?

On my TB (High idle) I could always press the throttle cam down to lower the idle from 1200 to 650 rpms, hence the tangent post about having to remove the TB to get a really good cleaning.

I guess I did what Lurker said...I know that when I pressed on the throttle cam I could move the idle from 1500 down to 650. I tightened the nuts when it was at 650 and that is where I am at.

While taking everything apart to work on it I pulled the rubber grommet that the nuts are on either side of up out of the little holder. Thats how I removed it...so I didn't mess with the nuts...a lot of good that did me.

So it a problem now that at start up it hits 1200 RPM then lowers to 650 RPM?

Most, if not all, of the Toyotas I've owned over the years had high cold idle... just something Toyota thinks they should do, better warm up? Oil gets to parts quicker?

That's good to know since I never knew how this truck behaved new!

I thought that I still had a little (high RPM start-up) problem, but now I see all is good.

At this point I'll just leave mine alone. :)

Good idea!! haha

Lurker- did you get done with your birf job?

No I just got my Amsiol in yesterday and one of the purple tubes of grease let go inside of the UPS box.

I'll order another tube and try again next week.

EWWWW WHAT A MESS!!! I used to work for UPS and FedEx...that is no surprise...it wouldn't even surprise me if it was leaking out of the box and they still delivered it! haha...

I just got a new set of rotors for the wife's Maxima...shipped UPS...at some point the box let go and all four of my rotors have nicks, scratches, dings, you name it all over them. Looks like the UPS boys played frisbee's with them...of course I don't know how well a 20lb frisbee would fly...obviously not very well.

Good luck when ever you get to it..

Datapoint:

On Thursday of last week I changed my EFI main relay. I drove it about 600 miles since then... stopping and starting frequently - just to be sure that the EFI computer stuff had reset. This had zero affect on my cold start idle nor the disparity with the idle between when the A/C is on or off. Onward and upward to the O-rings!

C.
