Thanks Matt. I'll be through this Friday, probably early evening. You going to be out of town already? Next time I'll be coming through will be later in the evening on Friday January 6th and then back through early evening on Sunday the 8th.

Steve have you personally gone by the local shops in your area....most have to pay to get it removed. I think you are making this a little harder than it needs to be.

What about the fluids from the base?

I still haven't gone door to door to very many, but so far it's 100% bust. Whether they pay or get paid, most have contracts with someone. The base not only have contracts, the red tape to pick up from them is not worth the effort. The main hurdle I have is that my quantities needed aren't enough that I can set up a consistent pick up schedule. My plan is to drive around to smaller "mom & pop" shops that are further out; not only might they not have contracts and strict regulations, but they also may not generate quite so much. It's just really hard for me to make it by anywhere before they close.

I agree with you though Bomar, this is definitely harder than it should be. Hopefully in time, I'll have things worked out. I did finally get approval from one shop though....right next to my house in Atlanta! :/

Mom and Pops are the only ones that are going to do it. No chains or corp owned stores...

You will get no's 10 to 1 but treat it like a game....it makes it more fun.

it is called sales. Do it every day. Step your game up.

Maybe that's part of my probelm and I just haven't realized it til you just mentioned it - I was a salesman in one form or another for over ten years before the Navy; maybe I have a phobia about this kinda thing now? Hmm, ponderous. :hhmm:

Thanks for the motivation though!

Get yo hustle on, Steve!
In truth, it shouldn't be terribly difficult to talk people in to letting me pick up their trash! The harder part is telling them I can't pick it up all the time and seeing if they still say yes. :censor:

Hustle and flow, son!

As JBo mentioned, your best bet is the smaller stores owned by individuals. I could've hooked you up with all you ever wanted, but our corporation is scared out the ying-yang about liability and lawsuits. Silly, but that's business.

With the amount of free containers I can provide, you are now limited by how much you want to invest in developing your sources. Good luck!

Jordan: Thanks (I guess) for showing me all the oil you were trying to get me hooked up with. So sad to see it all sitting there, already in the totes, just awaiting a new home....that cannot be mine. :(

Did get to Rob's shop last night and got about 130G of seemingly good quality oil (meaning not much sludge, water, and antifreeze). He thinks he can fill it up almost once a month so that may give me a reason to hit up a CLC meeting every month or two if anyone wants to set up some carpooling. He also may have me a hookup on regular unleaded for use as my thinning agent too. Very exciting. Long drive but, in the end, looks like it may work out nicely for being a multi-purpose trip each time.

Cool deal, Steve! Glad it worked out.
Me too. Burned 2 tanks in the green truck getting it, so that kinda sucks, but shouldn't need to pull up to a pump in the semi for at least 1500 miles - hopefully longer. Plus I should be getting another 50-100G once I get to Atlanta.

Funny thing: Little green Yota got 21mpg on the way down and only dropped to 19 coming back. I think the kinetic energy from the weight of the oil somewhat counteracted the massive wind resistance of the tank. No handling issues either; a little front to back sloshing was noticeable when leaving a light, but easily controlable.

Steve, sorry I missed this. We were already gone when you came thru. I will be in town on the 6th so I will get the diffs drained so it should be a solid 10 gal. Can't touch 50 gallons from ATL. I will get u my number and I can probably just meet at the TA travel center at exit 62 on 24. Have a Merry Christmas.

My plans changed and it looks like I'll be coming through Nashville Monday after all. You probably haven't had a chance to do your diffs yet, but I thought I'd ask if you were ready for me to pick up yet. If not, I'll probably be wheeling somewhere nearby in the next 6 weeks and we can try then.

Fair.

I still have not taken the time to go out and look for local shops to try to set up deals with. I hope maybe one day this weekend I can do so. I've been lucky enough to always find enough just in time for my trips but now I'm dry and will likely have to buy some diesel for my trip to Golden Mountain next weekend.

I think once it's warmer my processing system will function much better and, due to that and the ability to be outside longer because of temps and daylight, I'll be able to accomplish much more. Also now, thanks to Jordan, I have a very sizeable storage capacity; I hope to stock up over the summer so as not to have to do much during the winter months again.

P.S.- Happy that you sold the 4Runner, but sad to see her go (not as much as you are I'm sure)... Ironically enough, I'm about to aquire a 2nd gen 4Runner, 3.0, automatic after all - but it is, of course, a gas 3.0, not the 1KZ. :(

Well, dang! I think I saw those buckets and wondered what was in them. Thanks for the tires, Matt! three delivered, two to go!

Steve,

What I have found out about the used motor oil.... Safety kleen pays the dealership for there oil. So no free oil for you.

Sorry....they seem to do that with most of the places in town. It pretty much pays for there chemicals they use
