Hello, I know that what I am about to ask is not about a fj60 But I googled and nothing. But it is about a Toyota though, He has a 2001 sequioa and there was no freon in the a/c system. We went to wallymart and got a can with a gauge of 134a and it as to what it said. Now the a/c system comes on but no cold air. But when you shut of the car and fire it back up a few minutes later and activate the a/c system a weird smell comes out of the vents. The pressure gauge says about 17psi when compressor is on and when the compressor is off it says about 95psi. Is there anything that I can do to get cold air? I know it is not a landcruiser but I looked and looked. Thank you for any help you can give me.

buying that s*** is kind of a sucker thing. it wont really work good unless you vacuum ALL the old air out of the system. so you need a place that can do it or have a vacuum for it. sucks and im sorry

Thanks, Is there anything else I can do other than that?

you have leaking condensor or block expansion valve

Sounds like you have a leaking evaporator core this is the item that is in the dash and it is big and plastic.

Your heat dry unit which is a black round can looking thing that is between the Low side port and the high side port on the front of the truck near the condsor radiator.

Get some r-134 with leak finder and put it into the system. If you See the dye when you run the system if you see the dye in the sighting glass on the heater dryer unit you have a leaking evaportor. If you see nothing the expansion value is blocked.

I made the mistake of trying and fix the problem myself I reccomend a good toyota mechanic.

Parts they need to fix is heater dryer unit which you want to replace when you open the they sytem and and the evaporere and expansion valve.

You need a mechanic because they need to use a machine to clean the system out after they put it all back together to make sure they get all the crap in the line out and dry the system out.

Hope this helps let me know.

The stuff that I put into the a/c system is ezchill with leak sealer. when I look at the sight glass you see abunch of green stuff going through. The line goes from the drier, then to the radiator then comes out to the compressor. That line gets really hot. But the line going to the inside of the cab is not so cold. But if what you said is true, my father in law is out of luck for a/c this summer.

Your father in law is not out of luck. He has you to take his truck someplace where the diagnosis and repair of the A/C system will give him a operating A/C system for summer.

You can still be a hero. It will just look a little different!

Rick

It is just the funds issue, it stops the repairs that don't make it go forward for the time being!
