The thread about the 1977 fj40 for sale got me wondering about what the range in price is expected on fj40's? I'm looking at a 1976 with average rust for being 33 years outside. Original motor (I assume) with smog removed. Everything else looks standard, except rear lites are now boat trailer lites. Trying to post picks of the rusty spots. Motor does run, but did not drive it. Any thoughts. OH! I'm new to this site but old to fj40's. The one I have is street pretty,(wife's). The one I want, is to play on the rocks with. I posted on this site cause it is this area (Charlotte NC).
Thanks in advance.

obayha-the recent red 77 that sold looked to be from the pictures a truck mis-priced for it's condition hence the steal it was. There are alot of factors that play a part in this and the most important is really the market and what it will bear at the present time. These trucks fluctuate in price on what the individual looking at it wants to pay and what the seller considers a reasonable price.

Have any more pics... hard to give a price range from those ones. Where in charlotte is is located??

The 40 is up Hwy 16 about 10 miles. Here is one more picture of the bad door. The top has a good goo all the way around it, and I went to look at it last Friday, after all the three days of rain, it didn't look very wet inside at all. Thanks for the reply.

That looks like a good amount of rust from the pics and I'm sure there is more hiding. The newer yellow paint would be to cover up rust too. I'd be sure to check all the usual spots (rear sill, floor pans, etc). From the 3 pics you posted and assuming the rest of th etruck as rust just like the areas pictured then it wouldn't be worth much...

Engine/mechanical work is way easier to fix than body work...unless you are a body man by trade.

The rear sill is in a rusty state of needing repair. I have a pic of it at home and will try and post. This reply thing says I have redlined on attachments, so I don't know if it will let me post more. These are the worst of the rust. Taken to show wife worst case. In the Mountain Island Lake area.
Thanks for the input. Now I head north on 85 to home.

up 16 past 485 over the river, left at lite, left again, go to end of road, should be on left. Hope that's enough directions. Don't know the streets out there. If you are out that way, a second thought would help.

Given the current market and the state of this 40 based on the pictures shown, I would say the price would have to be very, very low before I would consider it.

The red 77 as stated, appeared to be a really good deal, although, the rear fenders appeared to be cut pretty good in a non-factory shape to boot. I probably would have scooped it up as well if it were still avail :D
