I have finally rejoined the LC family. My first vehicle ever was a 75 FJ40. I just got a 99 and it came with only one key. I have been looking through some of the threads to see about reprogramming a new one, but I may have the "valet" key. It does not have the remote buttons, and just manually opens the doors and starts the engine. How screwed am I?
Also, has anyone done the OME lift for this truck? How big can you go with tires?

I think you should have three keys, whether you had a factory alarm or not (did any 100s, especially in the early days, come without the factory alarm?). The two "main" keys will have a black plastic surround, while the "valet" key will have a smaller gray surround or be just bare metal. I'd definately check back with the seller. Also, take the VIN to a Toyota dealership, they should be able to see if you had a factory alarm on your truck. Will most likely be needed for ordering another key anyway.

Does the key at least have the little coded metal tag attached that can be used for ordering replacements?

The Key does not have any metal tag, so I assume it is the valet. The Toyota Dealership is telling me about $450 to get it done assuming it qualifies for the one time ecu replacement program. I will try to work the seller, but I didn't know if there were other options. The remote control portion means little to me, as I can get a new system installed for very little from a friend who owns a shop.

I think you're screwed. Once you're down to one master key (the fat, black one w/ the three buttons on it), you need to get another one. If you lose the master, you can't make a new one w/o having one. As you know, there's a one-time free replacement where toyota pays for the parts and you pay the labor. I think it's one time per vehicle, not per owner. Otherwise, it's like $1100 or so.

My CPO LX only came w/ 1 master key (and 1 valet), so I had to foot the bill of $215 (+0.5 hrs labor) for a second master. I didn't know (at the time of buying) that CPO vehicles are only required to be supplied with two keys, not two MASTER keys! The PO lost the other or never returned it, so I also had that missing key removed from the transponder ECU. Lesson learned..make sure any used toyota/lexus you buy has two master keys, or require that they provide a second master and have the missing one deleted from the ECU.

Get Another Master Key, Otherwise If You Lost Your Only Key; You Will Be In A Lot Of Trouble.

Thanks for the help. I was at least able to explain the problem to the dealer (Jeep of all things). He is seeing if they can help me out. Maybe I won't have to spend the money...
