A good friend of mine in Tucson just bought an '85 fj60 last week. He went to go and pick it up in CA Friday to drive it home and on his way it died. He had it towed to a Toyota dealership (I don't know where) and they told him that the igniter needs to be replaced. Is there anyone that could possibly loan/sell him one so that he can get the truck home? This is his first experience with a cruiser and is a really good guy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
lingo

WTH is an IGNITER? Ignition? Can he post up here? maybe we can help him with some more details. If there's a group of guys out there that will do our part, it's this group. I have some 2f stuff to help with if needed. Have your buddy register and post up. We'll get him squared up.

The igniter is the ignition control module on the truck. It sits on top of the coil. I have told him to sign up on Mud and he has been a little slow to do it. Thanks for the offer. I will send him a link to this thread and hopefully we can get him taken care of fairly quickly

Hey.
Yeah, it is the igniter...detailed on page 8-3 of the 1981 to 1987 2F Enginer Toyota repair manual.

Does anyone out there have a working one that I can purchase or borrow to get the truck to Arizona...it is stuck in greater Los Angeles at the moment.

OK, I'll dig through my stuff when I get home tonight. Not sure if I've got one as I believe the 60 had aftermarket ignition when I bought it. I'm pretty sure that I kept the coil and Ignition stuff when I sold the 2f though. I'll post back up tonight.

Pretty sure you can get a brand new setup through Specteroffroad.com for $150 if you buy one of the electronic ignition setups. it replaces the entire ignitor setup!

024-03a is the coil with internal resistor.

that page, or thereabouts, will show all the required components. I'm sure there's an aftermarket (cheaper) solution to what he needs vs. toyota.

Excellent thanks for your guy's help. I need to look into the spectre parts and such....hopefully this week.

Do you see anything you like in this pic? If yes, go here for contact info.

he needs the piece on the left with the coil.

I may have one left over after my HEI install. I'll need to dig through my spare parts.

Guy who has the exact part wont go to the post office to ship it. Does anyone have the part in Tucson or is willing to ship it? I want to try and avoid paying the $150 for the new system. I also want to keep the truck as stock as I can.
