I have a 2000 model LC100 manual tanny turbo diesel. This just happen, doing about 130 kph at 3800 rpm a felt a little burp/hiccup then I switch to 5th. Felt a lose of power. Figured maybe a turbo leak. A few kilometers after I heard a faint back fire. Released the throttle a bit and then bit of black smoke then boom, white smoke everywhere.

As soon as that happened I released my throttle and wanted to stop the car. But on neutral throttle locked up! Reving to 4k rpm (red line) I stuck it on 5th till a full stop then engine died.

Freaky situation. Anyway my question, what happened?

Oil out my exhaust. Dip stick is dry. I just changed my oil last week. The white smoke till I stopped happened within 20 secs.

Turbo is wet with oil everywhere. I have a feeling the turbo died but
Why did my throttle get stuck?

I can't be the only one.

What a freaky thing to happen. it just happen so quick, almost bailed on the car. Shut the engine and nothing. all with in 20 secs.

Engine was running fine, gauges seemed normal. At a point I did say my power felt a bit off though. Thought my turbo hose popped or something. Just started cruising then 20 secs of horror.

I hope my engine didn't blow. I'm now going to learn from this and prevent it from ever happening again.

I imagine it was pretty scary, could have really been bad. Hope it did not cause too much damage.

White smoke is normally a sure sign of coolant in the combustion chambers. Oil smoke tends to be dark grey/blue color.

Well I checked my radiator and no sign of oil. Dipstick dry though. I did however do a oil change 4 days prior.

I'm going to remove my turbo today. I hope nothing else was damaged.

My engine is the 1hdt 4.2 12V engine that came standard with the local LC 100 ifs here in the PI. Guessing my Turbo is the CT26.

So I was able to pull out my turbo. Full of oil. Engine spins and seems to be okay thankfully! The old mechanic of this car did a number to the turbo. It doesn't ever say ct26 just Toyota.

Anyway I decided I'll just replace me turbo. Any recommendations? A few on eBay that say c26 upgrade. Are as of those okay?

If your engine is 1hd-fte. i would use same turbo. You can probably have it rebuilt

If yours is the 12 valve 1HDT and not the 24 valve 1HDT one of the issues seen here in Australia was big end failure as i said relevant only to the 12 valve. Toyota did bring out different big ends never did it as a recall though. Hope it isn't that serious though.

Sounds like it wet stacked. Don't know what would have caused it though. With generators it happens because they are being ran at a small percentage of their potential. With car diesels I think it has to do with fuel getting in the exhaust system.

Yup mine is the 12 valve one. I'll need to look into that big end failure. My turbo did blow for sure. Shaft snapped in between. Hopefully nothing else was damage. I'll know tonight when I reinstall everything.

No signs though of any metal pieces from the oil. Also there was still a lot of oil left when drained. I say 8 liters

crossing my fingers!
